Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces Appoints Wayne Murphy as Director
of Food & Beverage for the 273-room Taj Boston in Massachusetts

BOSTON – (August 21, 2012)
– Taj Boston has appointed Wayne Murphy as Director of Food & Beverage for the landmark hotel at Arlington and Newbury streets overlooking the Public Garden.

In this role, Murphy is responsible for all food and beverage operations of the hotel. This includes The Café, the intimate all-day dining restaurant with a New England raw bar and views of fashionable Newbury Street; Afternoon Tea service in The French Room; seasonal Sunday Champagne Brunch on The Roof; daily Express Continental Breakfast, light lunch and dinner and small plates in The Bar; 24-hour in-room dining, and all weddings, banquets, corporate meetings and private events that take place in the hotel’s two ballrooms as well as The Roof and The Club event venues and 15 meeting rooms.

Murphy brings extensive hospitality leadership to the position, with more than 21 years of experience in all facets of hotel management and food and beverage gained in New England, the UK and his native Ireland.

His list of accomplishments includes orchestrating a successful $19 million brand re-invention of seven  dining outlets and in-room dining concepts for The Boston Copley Marriott; increasing revenue for all restaurants and earning #1 company ratings from meeting planners at The Ritz-Carlton, Boston Common; and driving pre- and post-opening sales for four outlets at Boston Marriott Copley.

Most recently, during two years as Executive Director of Rooms at Providence Marriott Downtown, Murphy inspired significant gains in guest and associate satisfaction across six front and back of the house departments while also assisting with food and beverage operations.

A graduate of New Hampshire College with a degree in Hospitality Management, Murphy progressively worked his way up from a 1994 internship program prior to completing his degree in 1995 through increasingly challenging restaurant and bar management positions at Boston Marriott Newton, departing as Restaurant Manager in 2001.

Before moving to the U.S., Murphy completed his degree in Hotel Catering and Institutional Management at Birmingham College of Food Tourism and Creative Studies in England, where he also worked as Kitchen Manager at Bella Pasta Restaurant. Previously, in Ireland, Murphy was a Manager of Emerald Night Club in Dunmore, Galway; a trainee Manager of Ardilaun House Hotel in Taylor’s Hill, Galway, and Bar Manager at Ower House, Greenfield, Ower.

Murphy is a resident of Needham, Mass.
