For 2012, the HSMAI Greater New York Chapter named six individuals honored for their outstanding work and dedication to the hospitality industry and the sales and marketing profession. The following honorees were named for 2012:
Selected by the Past Presidents Council of the HSMAI Greater New York Chapter, in recognition of their significant contributions to the tourism industry in New York City, NYC & Company was honored as the 19th recipient of the Frank W. Berkman Tourism Achievement Award. NYC & Company (www.nycgo.com) is the official marketing, tourism and partnership organization for the City of New York, dedicated to maximizing travel and tourism opportunities throughout the five boroughs, building economic prosperity and spreading the positive image of New York City worldwide. In 2011, a new record of 50.5 million tourists visited our city and we are now the number one destination for international travel to the U.S. The award was presented by Markus Boeker, Immediate Past President of the HSMAI Greater New York Chapter and Senior Market Manager, Orbitz Worldwide, and accepted by George Fertitta, CEO, NYC & Company. "The impact of NYC & Company on our hospitality industry is intrinsic to our annual Frank W. Berkman Tourism Achievement Award as their dedicated team contributes to tourism in our great city each and every day – 365 days a year," said Boeker. Frank W. Berkman, CHME, was a former Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of HSMAI for 16 years. This award was created in 1994 by the Past President’s Council of the HSMAI Greater New York Chapter and was named after Berkman because of his dedication to building HSMAI into the highly-influential international hospitality industry organization it is today.
