Joe Martin, Owner and Operator of Stillwater Hospitality,
Honored with AH&LA Lawson Odde Award

Houston, June 13, 2012 – Joe Martin, owner and operator of Stillwater Hospitality, LLC in Oklahoma, was presented with the prestigious American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) Lawson A. Odde Award during the board of directors meeting at the AH&LA Summer Summit.

This distinguished award is named after Lawson A. Odde, the second executive vice president of AH&LA, who was responsible for the modernization of membership expansion and financial operations. The Odde Award is given annually to a member of the AH&LA board of directors and is chosen by a vote of past Odde Award winners.

Martin served as the chairman of AH&LA in 2009, and is a 32-year veteran in the industry.  Martin’s Best Western in Weatherford, OK has been given Best Western’s highest recognition, “Best of the Best,” four times. His Hampton Inn & Suites in Stillwater, OK has received Hilton’s highest recognition, the “Connie Award” on two occasions.  He also serves as the chairman of the board of advisors for the college of Hotel & Restaurant Administration at Oklahoma State University, and was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2009.

In addition to serving as an AH&LA officer, he has served on the association’s Executive Committee, Governmental Affairs Committee, and on the Planning Task Force that resulted in the current structure of AH&LA. He is also part of the Strategic Planning Committee that is working on a new association model.  Martin is a past board member of the Outdoor Advertising Association of America and a past chairman of the American Council of Highway Advertisers. He served as a Governor appointee on the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Commission from 1995 through 2002, and received the State of Oklahoma’s Tourism Service Award in 2002.

“Joe has been a tremendous asset on the board and as an officer,” said AH&LA President/CEO Joseph A. McInerney. “He continues to play an active role on our Strategic Planning Committee as we work toward changing our structure to a new-industry driven association. We are proud to honor him with this award reserved for the best of the best.”
