News for the Hospitality Executive
New York, NY – June 5, 2012 – St Giles Hotels has announced the appointment of Cesar Avery as the new general manager for Manhattan portfolio which consists of two Manhattan side-by-side properties – The Tuscany and The Court. Avery, a nominee for the 2010 HSMAI Big Apple Chapter General Manager of the Year Award, is a hospitality industry executive with experience leading upscale boutique hotels in Washington D.C. and New York City.
“It is with great excitement that we welcome Cesar Avery to the St Giles team. His creativity, energy and experience will be invaluable as we go forward as a company and we look forward to working with him,” said Abigail Tan, director of corporate affairs, St Giles Hotels. “He will also oversee the exciting renovation of The Tuscany which is slated to finish this Fall and re-launch this luxury property, which will feature sophisticated design elements and new amenities.”
Avery joins St Giles after nearly a decade with the 130-room boutique Roger Smith Hotel in New York where he served as general manager for 8 years. Prior, he worked as their director of marketing. During his tenure the property’s rooms division revenue rose by 40 percent, with average rates increasing by 25 percent.
Avery’s former hospitality posts include the Country Inn & Suites in Cedar Falls, Iowa as assistant general manager; Best Western New Hampshire Suites & Sheraton National at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. as director of sales and marketing; and the Melrose Hotel in Washington as director of business travel – his last position before joining Roger Smith in New York.
Avery holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in business management from Upper Iowa University and is a 2007 graduate of the General Managers Program at Cornell University.
