The 112-key La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla, California Hires Three New Team Members

Stephanie Howard as Director of Sales, Andrew Mosblech as Director of Food and Beverage
and Tanya Schmidt as Beer Concierge

San Diego, Calif. (April 23, 2012)- La Jolla’s famed La Valencia Hotel is pleased to announce Stephanie Howard, Andrew Mosblech and Tanya Schmidt as the newest members of its dynamic team.

Stephanie Howard joins the La Valencia team as the newest member of the property’s sales and marketing team. Howard brings more than 15 years of hospitality and sales experience to her new role as the hotel’s Director of Sales. Prior to joining La Valencia, she held senior level sales and conference services positions at resorts in Arizona, including Montelucia Resort & Spa, the Boulders Resort & Golden Door Spa, and The Phoenician.

“Stephanie brings with her an extensive background in sales and conference services,” said Vikram Sood, La Valencia’s Managing Director. “Her years of experience and depth of knowledge combined with her passion for hospitality and dedication to her clients, make her an extremely valuable addition to our team.”

Howard studied at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona where she graduated with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts Degree with an Emphasis on Sociology and Marketing. She further sharpened her hospitality and sales skills at the Mundus Travel Institute in Phoenix.

The hotel is pleased to announce Andrew Mosblech as the hotel’s new Director of Food and Beverage. Mosblech brings more than 10 years of industry experience to La Valencia, as he has previously managed, directed and consulted some of the nation’s most renowned restaurants, bars and F&B programs including the Daniel Patterson Group, COI and A16. Prior to joining the La Valencia team, Mosblech held the position as General Manager and Wine Director of Cucina Urbana located in the Banker’s Hill area of San Diego.

“Andrew brings a wealth of food and beverage knowledge to La Valencia. We look forward to the dynamic changes he will bring to our restaurant and dining outlets,” said Vikram Sood. “His impressive experience and passion for the industry will play an integral role in the enhancements currently taking place with La Valencia’s food and beverage program.”

Mosblech studied at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations. He further sharpened his food and beverage skills when he traveled to major wine regions of Europe and South America where he focused extensively on the wine and culinary aspects of different cultures.

A dynamic and cultured beer connoisseur, Tanya Schmidt has followed an ongoing passion for brewing and crafting beer to become La Valencia Hotel’s first-ever beer concierge. San Diego is an acclaimed destination known for its craft and locally brewed beer and has established itself as one of the premier beer capitals of the world, making the bustling city a natural fit for this Hospitality and Beverage graduate.

Schmidt graduated from the University of Central Florida where she discovered her passion for wine and beer. After exhausting all available wine courses at UCF, Schmidt turned to beer courses and slowly started experimenting with the brewing process. She joined her professor’s brew club and volunteered at various Florida beer festivals, eventually leading her to meet Ray Daniels, founder of the Cicerone Certification Program. Schmidt soon became a Cicerone Certified Beer Server and is currently pursuing a continued education through the program.

Schmidt is spearheading an entirely new menu concept for La Valencia’s Whaling Bar and Grill, pairing cheeses and beer, and will hold monthly pairing classes open to the public. She is also in the process of scouting local breweries to get a feel for the extensive assortment of beer that San Diego offers. In order to offer the newest and the best brews that San Diego has to offer, she plans to rotate the taps at the Whaling Bar to provide guests with an entirely well rounded, local experience.
