WASHINGTON--The American Hotel &
Lodging Association announced the winners of the 2011 State Leadership
Awards at their annual Legislative Action Summit. California Hotel
& Lodging Association’s (CH&LA) immediate past chair, Pam
Richardson was honored with the award for the state of California. The
State Leadership Awards were created in 1998 to honor standout members
within each partner state of AH&LA who help implement and
strengthen programs.
As the 2011 Chair of the California Hotel & Lodging Association,
Pam guided the association through a very significant legislation issue
that would require fitted sheets in every California hotel. Through
Pam’s guidance, CH&LA assembled a coalition effort that was coupled
with scientific research to refute the proponents arguments, a
professional public relations campaign that resulted in national
coverage and editorial support from virtually ever media outlet in
California, along with a grassroots effort that was the largest in the
association’s history.
While this legislative effort was occurring, Pam led the association to
another banner year, with revenues exceeding budget, the introduction
of a new safety & security conference, and the best year ever for
CH&LA’s political action committee, increasing contributions by 35%
over the previous year.
“On behalf of the California Hotel & Lodging Association, I would
like to congratulate Pam on this much-deserved honor. Pam’s leadership
was instrumental in our legislative efforts this past year, as well as
our success as an association and an industry,“ said Lynn Mohrfeld,
CAE, President & CEO of CH&LA.
