Extensive Renovations Unveiled as the 186-room Surfcomber Miami, South Beach
in Florida Opens Under the Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants Brand

MIAMI, December 1, 2011
– Visitors to South Beach will notice a change in the scenery as well as a new vibe as the Surfcomber Miami, South Beach officially opens today under the Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants brand. Following a multi-million dollar, top-to-bottom renovation of the hotel’s two towers and public spaces, while ensuring due sensitivity to the property’s historic architectural elements, this updated South Beach classic brings Kimpton’s personalized approach to service and whimsical spirit to the destination.

Timed to showcase the new, design-driven hotel during Miami’s busy Art Basel Miami Beach, the most prestigious art show in the Americas, the new Surfcomber from Kimpton opens with a sold out week, promising guests a stylish and playful escape within a trilogy of sun, surf, and sand.

“Kimpton’s new Surfcomber brings to South Beach what visitors to the area desire most – a hotel that is dynamic and fun, yet inviting and authentic,” said Sean McKeen, general manager at the Surfcomber. “Already, our guests are connecting with the spirit of approachability and fun we are trying to create in this ultimate playground under the sun.”

In addition to the hotel’s distinctive approach to personalized service, Surfcomber, which sits along 200 feet of oceanfront in the heart of the Art Deco District, has been re-designed with a singular style that marries the eclectic look of European Bohemia with a down home, American front porch appeal. The result is a warm and inviting atmosphere with elements of surprise throughout that create a relaxed, yet exciting ambiance and a guest experience that is as cool as it is friendly, and as sexy as it is fun.

Throughout the hotel, guests will enjoy the expansive outdoor deck and heated pool surrounded by well-appointed cabanas, which provide a sublime setting for sipping cocktails while sun-worshiping poolside. Inside, the Surfcomber’s 186 guest rooms feature luxurious bed linens and bath products by European fashion designer, Etro.  Guests will also enjoy a diverse mix of dining and lounge options including Lantao Kitchen + Bar and Lantao Social Club, an ode to Southeast Asian cuisine served in a casual and sexy atmosphere.

As with other Kimpton hotels, Surfcomber is pet-friendly, welcoming four-legged guests and providing them with their own services and amenities upon registration at no extra cost, including VIP (Very Important Pet) amenity; pet bowl and pet bed. For guests traveling alone, Kimpton’s Guppy Love Program allows Surfcomber guests to request a live goldfish – fed and cared for by the hotel staff – to stay overnight in their guestroom.

Surfcomber will also offer all of Kimpton’s favorite guest amenities such as its personalized guest preferences, Forgot It? We’ve Got It! menu of travel essentials, creative mini bars with healthful and organic options, complimentary Wi-Fi to Kimpton InTouch members, morning coffee and tea service in the living room, hosted evening wine hour daily, and health-minded wellness options, such as complimentary on-demand yoga, Pilates and meditation television channels, along with a yoga bag filled with accessories for use during a guest’s stay. Surfcomber also provides 24-hour in room dining, 24-hour on-site business center, and 24-hour valet service.

Surfcomber has also implemented Kimpton’s more than 100 environmentally responsible operational practices under the Kimpton EarthCare program, which has been proven effective in reducing waste, energy and water consumption nationwide.

The new Surfcomber joins Kimpton’s two other Florida hotels, the ultra-sophisticated and top rated EPIC in Downtown Miami, and the luxurious Vero Beach Hotel & Spa, providing Kimpton brand loyalists with three choices when visiting South Florida.
