Architecture & Design
An Art Deco property built in 1939 by Yugoslavian-born architect Anton Skislewicz, Hotel Breakwater most recently underwent several years of upgrades under the direction of designer Stephen B. Jacobs. Since its inception, Hotel Breakwater has been regarded as a glamorous South Beach destination catering to a hip, of-the-moment clientele. The hotel became legendary in the 1980s when it was immortalized in the popular Calvin Klein advertisement for Obsession perfume featuring supermodel Kate Moss and shot by Bruce Weber on the famed rooftop terrace.
In spite of a long series of renovations, the hotel’s décor has remained true to the classic Art Deco styling and color palette. The hotel’s guest-only beach zone is located directly across Ocean Drive, offering lounge service along with a variety of water-sports activities for those seeking the definitive South Beach experience. Restaurants & Lounges
NINE, Hotel Breakwater’s “east-meets-west” culinary concept, offers European-American comfort cuisine in a casual indoor-outdoor setting. Under the guidance of its three executive chefs, Ezequiel Zingoni, Billy Devlin and Manuel Mattei, NINE will offer natural and organic menu items including traditional Neapolitan pizzas, hand-made pastas, local seafood as well as inventive meat and poultry dishes. The restaurant will also feature a regional cheese bar imported from Europe. Located in the hotel’s lobby, NINE’s décor will be a combination of classic art deco and Mediterranean style.
NINE will be open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. daily.
