Portland, Oregon, July 18, 2011 – The Benson Hotel announced today staff additions in their Food & Beverage department including the following:
Affirmation of Serge Selbe as Executive Chef s and Director of Culinary Operations. A long-time Benson Hotel executive and Portland culinary icon, Mr. Selbe was hand-picked by legendary Benson Hotel Executive Chef Xavier Bauser to function in the role of Executive Sous-Chef in 2001. After a brief period of absence, in 2008, Serge was enticed to return to The Benson Hotel as Director of Culinary Operations and has been flourishing in that role since. His present responsibilities include serving as Executive Chef, and oversight of everything related to food and beverage for the hotel including the re-design and re-launch of the London Grill restaurant which is presently underway.
Appointment of Andrea Russell, Director of Catering for The Benson Hotel. Ms. Russell will oversee the catering department’s four staff and brings a superior track record of performance gleaned since 2006 at the Hotel Vintage Plaza and Pazzo Ristorante in Portland, Oregon. Ms. Russell is responsible for selling, managing and planning social and corporate events. And, will manage corporate conference clients, social catering clients, weddings and other special events for The Benson.
Appointment of Jim Jones, Restaurant Manager, London Grill – Mr. Jones is managing the London Grill Restaurant, a long time Portland establishment known for its’ superb service, 6000 bottle wine cellar and tableside service. Along with the executive chef, Mr. Jones is managing the re-branding of the London Grill into a Northwest-focused restaurant emphasizing fresh, organic menu selections in an intimate, but dynamic space including bar, chef’s table and private dining room, Mr. Jones has spent the last eleven years as General Manager and Owner of Total Image LLC, a restaurant development company based in the Pacific Northwest, specializing in wine sales and consulting services.
Todd Moore, Director of Banquets for The Benson Hotel. Mr. Moore is responsible for managing banquets permitting the hotel to bring its’ catering operation to new heights of excellence. Mr. Moore has worked with The Benson since 1998 with a four year stint as General Manager of El Gaucho Steakhouse.
According to Ron Gladney, General Manager of The Benson Hotel, the staff additions and changes at The Benson Hotel will “allow the hotel to continue to position itself as the premier banquets, special events and conference space in the Portland market”. A 32-year veteran of Coast Hospitality, LLC, Mr. Gladney added, “The restaurant operation itself will be infused with new energy while preserving the best of the past. We look forward to working with new leadership and an all new look that will be happening soon.”
