May 04, 2011 --Nearly three years after the old Celebration Station was demolished, work on a new hotel and retail cluster is moving forward.

Construction on a 107-room Hilton Garden Inn is well under way, and two more hotels are planned for the area, said Champak Patel, head of Champion Hotel Development of Oklahoma City.

The two others, a 103-room Residence Inn by Marriott and a 93-room Holiday Inn Express, should be constructed within two or three years, Patel said.

The 17-acre ring-shaped development south of Interstate 44 and west of Yale Avenue, known as 51 Yale, also includes multiple outparcel lots being offered to retail and restaurant concepts.

Patel said Jack in the Box has purchased one of those outparcels. Brian Luscomb, a spokesman for the fast-food chain, said ground was broken for a new restaurant this week, and the building should be finished by late summer.

The development does not include the existing Baymont Inn within the center of the ring.

Patel had purchased all the pieces of the land in 2008 with the intent of building three hotels and selling some land for outparcels.

At the time, they prepared the land for development by demolishing the Celebration Station, a former Don Pablo's restaurant and a warehouse-greenhouse building.

The land lay dormant after that. Patel said the weak economy delayed development, though the overall plan for 51 Yale has not changed in that time.

Sawatzsky Homes Inc. of Weatherford is developing the Hilton Garden Inn for Champion Hotel Development. Kent Sawatzsky, president of Sawatzsky Homes, said the hotel will include a meeting room, full-service restaurant, indoor pool and exercise room.

The hotel will be the sixth Sawatzsky Homes has constructed in the Tulsa metro area since 1999 and will be among the many it has constructed for Champion Hotel Development across the state.
