Amsterdam Hospitality Executing Complete Renovation
of New York City's Moderne Hotel

NEW YORK, May 2, 2011-- Amsterdam Hospitality Group, a real estate development and hospitality management organization operating The Empire Hotel, Marcel at Gramercy and other boutique hotels in New York City, announces that it has signed on Goodman Charlton, LLC, a design firm specializing in modern interiors, to execute a complete redesign of The Moderne Hotel, located at 243 West 55th Street in New York, NY. The lavish restoration, slated to be completed in May 2011, will consist of a revamp of the hotel's interiors, including the 40 guestrooms, relaxing communal lounge space and business center, creating an aesthetic that is reflective of the neighborhood where high art meets the daily hustle of commerce.

The renovation of The Moderne will combine the essence of an intimate European hotel with the glamour and style of a chic New York City townhouse. The hotel's 40 sleek and sophisticated guestrooms will provide an ultramodern interior, featuring an oversized tufted white leather bed draped in extravagant Belgian linens, a polished stainless steel desk and a Charles Eames-inspired black and white woven carpet. In addition to donning bold original abstract artwork, each richly appointed guest room reflects the whimsical spirit of the 1950's Color Field art movement, featuring works inspired by influential artists such as Helen Frankenthaler and Morris Louis.  Lush red parachute nylon drapes block out the harsh light of day, and reveal the energy and excitement of the neighborhood when parted.

In addition, the newly refurbished bathrooms will underscore the modern feel of the guestrooms with stainless steel tiles and a glamorous oversized backlit mirror. The bath amenities are custom-formulated, all natural based on the essence of spearmint to add a note of relaxed opulence to your distinctive accommodations.

Goodman Charlton's redesign will combine some of the hotel's existing small units to create six loft-like suites with exposed brick walls and extra high ceilings to emphasize the townhouse feel of the hotel. With only 34 guest rooms and 6 loft-like suites, The Moderne Hotel offers a serene and relaxing experience in one of New York City's finest boutique hotels.

In addition to 40 well-appointed guestrooms, the redesign of the hotel will also give life to a large communal living room and lounge space on the second floor that will feature silver leather sofas and a cozy brick fireplace, as well as numerous iPad terminals. In addition, guests can enjoy a wet bar to relax, lounge and socialize.

"We want to deliver a true boutique hotel experience to our guests in the heart of a bustling area of Manhattan," said T. Blake Danner, Executive Vice President, Hotels Division of Amsterdam Hospitality.  "With only five rooms on each floor, the redesign of The Moderne will allow guests to enjoy secluded solace and a truly intimate experience."

Tucked between midtown high-rises on West 55th Street, The Moderne Hotel is located in a unique neighborhood that captures the dynamic pulse of New York City.  Located within walking distance of the Museum of Modern Art and Carnegie Hall, the style of The Moderne's interiors was inspired by the contemporary art movement.  Goodman Charlton's stunning revamp of The Moderne Hotel will offer a peaceful, intimate oasis in the core of a vibrant New York neighborhood.
