Julie Orton Appointed as General Manager of
The Hotel School Sydney in Australia

June 2011
- Ms. Julie Orton has been appointed General Manager of The Hotel School Sydney. Her career to date has spanned both the Education and Hospitality sectors, most recently based in Hong Kong as Regional Admissions Director Asia for Laureate International Universities Inc and prior to that General Manager Leisure and Restaurant Associates for Compass Group.

Julie’s roots are in Education. She comes from a family of Australian educators. Her grandmother was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for her contribution to migrant education and both her parents are still working in university education.

“I am truly excited by the prospect of helping to further develop The Hotel School Sydney brand” says Julie “and so proud to become associated with an institution that has an incomparable reputation in hospitality education. It’s unique in Australia and, I think, anywhere in the world. It’s hard to beat a partnership between a leading university, Southern Cross University and the Mulpha Australia group of properties, InterContinental Sydney, Hayman Great Barrier Reef, Sanctuary Cove, Hyatt Regency Sanctuary Cove and Bimbadgen Estate Hunter Valley. The Hotel School Sydney is the only hotel school situated in the Sydney CBD, has been setting benchmarks in hospitality education for 22 years, winning every Tourism Australia and NSW Tourism Award for excellence at one time or another and is growing every year in academic stature and student numbers as it becomes recognized as a centre of academic research, linking formal academia and the fast paced global hospitality industry. It’s a dream job !”
