Dickinson, North Dakota's Hotel Expansion Continues
Two More Hotels May Go Up in Addition to Five Already Built or in Progress

By Lisa Miller, The Dickinson Press, N.D.McClatchy-Tribune Regional News

June 10, 2011--Dickinson residents may see two more hotels going up in the city this summer.

Five other hotels have or will be built in Dickinson this summer, the Press reported earlier this week.

City Administrator Shawn Kessel confirmed Utah Hospitality II has secured land in the community and added the city has been working with them to issue a building permit and make sure its proposal meets city requirements.

Kessel said the city is also working with another hotel looking to locate in Dickinson. City Commission meeting documents confirm this, however specifics are not available.

The company is also constructing similar hotels (not yet named) in Williston and Minot this summer, said Cindy Quam of Utah Hospitality II, the company that will own and operate the hotels.

A three-story, 63-unit Dickinson hotel will be north of Prairie Hills Mall, along Highway 22, Quam said. Construction will begin this month and it is expected to open before the end of the year.

The cost of each hotel is "still being worked out," said Quam and the general contractor.

The hotels feature one- and two- bed studio suites which include kitchenettes and a fully stocked convenience store, according to a press release.

"We are excited to begin work in North Dakota," said Ryan Rivett with Legacy Builders, Inc. of Aberdeen, S.D., the general contractor.

What interested Legacy Builders, Inc. was the activity in western North Dakota and the great need for rooms, he said.

"I hope we will be able to satisfy at least some of the need," Rivett said.

The Williston and Minot hotel opening dates are scheduled for early 2012.

Utah Hospitality II is a developer, owner and operator of full-service and select-service hotels based in Aberdeen, S.D. Its brands include Holiday Inn Express and Suites, Staybridge Suites, Holiday Inn and Suites, Comfort Inn and Hotel Indigo, according to its website.
