Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau Promotes Rolando Aedo to Executive Vice President-Chief Marketing Officer

MIAMI, Fla. (April 6, 2011) – Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) President  and CEO William D. Talbert, III, CDME is pleased to announce the promotion of Rolando Aedo to Executive Vice President-Chief Marketing Officer of the GMCVB.  "Rolando’s extensive destination marketing experience and extraordinary commitment to community has served Greater Miami and the Beaches exceedingly well," Talbert said.  “He has successfully led the GMCVB’s marketing efforts to increase excitement and demand for the Miami brand worldwide during very challenging times.”

Aedo joined the Bureau in 1994 to head up the GMCVB marketing programs to assist in the recovery of tourism in the areas of the community affected by Hurricane Andrew.  He has since held progressively responsible positions, most recently as Sr. Vice President of Marketing & Tourism for the past three and a half years.  During that time, Aedo led his team through many successful GMCVB initiatives including a highly successful International Pow Wow, an increasingly successful Miami Spice Restaurant Month and the development of similar programs such as Miami Spa, Miami Museums, Miami Attractions, and Miami Live Music months; the expansion of the GMCVB’s global representation network that now covers 19 countries; and the extension of the Miami Begins with Me customer service program to Miami International Airport and the Port of Miami. He has also been the point person in working with GMCVB partners American Airlines, Miami-Dade County, The Beacon Council, The Downtown Development Authority,  Baptist Health South Florida, the Port of Miami and Miami International Airport  on the results-oriented public relations campaign Miami:  Where Worlds Meet, which promotes Greater Miami’s position as a global destination to ‘Live, Work, and Play’.  Much of this was accomplished during one of the greatest economic challenges in our industry’s history.

In his new role Aedo will continue to supervise the GMCVB’s Marketing and Tourism team which includes advertising and new media, publishing, research, media relations and promotions, tourism sales, membership, cultural tourism, and the GMCVB’s award-winning website team.  Aedo will also work on key industry, management and operational issues important to the GMCVB to include taking the lead on the GMCVB strategic planning process for the Greater Miami Visitor Industry.

“As a life-long resident of Miami, I am delighted to have the opportunity to continue to serve in a community and industry that I love,” says Aedo.  “I am committed to ensuring the destination’s continued success moving forward.”

Rolando holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Florida International University and a Masters in Business Administration specializing in International Business from The University of Miami. In addition, he recently achieved the Certified Destination Management Executive (CDME) designation from Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI), the highest educational achievement in the destination marketing industry.
