Hidden Pond in Kennebunkport, Maine Opens the Season with 20 New Luxury Bungalow
Cottages, a Tree House Spa and Chef Ken Oringer’s New Restaurant, Earth

KENNEBUNKPORT, ME (March, 2011) – When Hidden Pond opened its doors in 2008, it brought a fresh, vibrant style to the traditional seaside town of Kennebunkport. This spring, the 60-acre secluded resort will unveil new bungalow cottages, a tree house spa and Earth, a new restaurant in collaboration with internationally acclaimed Chef Ken Oringer.

In addition to the existing collection of 14 eclectic cottages, each conceived by a different Maine designer, Hidden Pond will also offer 20 cozy bungalow cottages set among balsam and birch groves. Each bungalow cottage will feature both indoor and outdoor living space in a “contemporary rustic” décor inspired by the surrounding woods and nearby beach. Inside the cottages, the plush king bed is opposite a sitting area situated around a grand floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace.  The luxuriously outfitted bathrooms have a similar indoor/outdoor feel as each features a private outdoor shower.  The bungalow cottages have a screened porch with a daybed designed for two, as well as a café table and chairs.  An array of deluxe amenities complete the bungalow cottages, from flat panel televisions with DVD players and Bose sound system  to creature comforts such as down-filled duvets, Frette linens, and custom bath amenities.

Earth, created in collaboration with famed Boston chef and James Beard Award-winner Ken Oringer, will focus on “farm to fork” freshness, with a menu that features vegetables and herbs picked from Hidden Pond’s on-site organic Farm along with freshly caught seafood and meats sourced locally. Menu highlights include wood oven roasted fiddle head ferns; peekytoe crab toasts with avocado and French cocktail sauce; and fresh picked heirloom radishes with local oysters and salsa verde as appetizers. Signature entrées include cavatelli with fava beans, peas, pecorino and house made guanciale; wood roasted local Maine lobster with green curry butter and grilled lemon; and roasted line caught black bass with garden herbs, jalapeno and Malabar spinach. Patrons can dine al fresco overlooking the pond and nightly bonfire.

Nestled in the treetops overlooking the beach forest is the new Tree Spa at Hidden Pond. The three treetop spa rooms 8 feet above ground are connected by a cat walk woven through the trees. Guests can choose from a selection of massages, facials and body treatments that focus on the restoration of health, energy and wellness using the resort’s signature brand of soothing oils and lotions. Treatments will also incorporate  ingredients picked fresh from Hidden Pond’s garden including rosemary, mint and lavender.

“Hidden Pond is all about laid-back living with an opportunity to customize your stay to your own tastes,” says Natalie Ward, Managing Director of Hidden Pond. “A typical day might consist of a morning delivery of freshly baked pastries and coffee, yoga by the garden, taking a one-mile bike ride to nearby Goose Rocks Beach, savoring a memorable dinner at Earth and ending the day enjoying a glass of wine or roasting s’mores at the main lodge’s nightly bonfire. It’s a vacation reminiscent of sleep-away camp, but with all the elements in place to feel truly relaxed and pampered.”

Additional guest amenities added to the property include a second pool and a state-of-the-art events barn ideal for special events and corporate retreats.

Nightly rates at Hidden Pond are from $425 to $985 per night, per cottage depending on season.  A special opening rate of $399 for the bungalow cottages is available through June 23rd.
