WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Mar 15, 2011
-- Starwood Hotels &
Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: HOT) announced today that it has named
Brian
Povinelli Global Brand Leader for Westin Hotels & Resorts. With
more than
20 years of brand and marketing experience, Povinelli has spent the
last five
years at Starwood in senior marketing roles. Most recently, Povinelli
served as
Vice President of Brand Management for the company's North America
division,
overseeing marketing, advertising, brand management and strategic
positioning
for Starwood's two largest and most global brands, Westin and Sheraton.
Povinelli, 41, will report to Phil McAveety, Starwood's Chief Brand
Officer. He
replaces Nancy London, who has chosen to leave Starwood after ten
successful
years to join a new fashion venture, "Style for Hire," co-founded by
her sister, renowned stylist and television personality, Stacy London,
where
she will oversee marketing and public relations.
"With nine global lifestyle hospitality brands, and a history of innovative brand and marketing programs, Starwood is fortunate to have a deep bench of brand and marketing talent, and we are delighted to have selected a new leader for the Westin brand from within our own ranks," said Phil McAveety, Chief Brand Officer of Starwood Hotels & Resorts. "With his experience leading global brands, and his very successful career at Starwood, Brian was our first and unanimous choice to lead Westin, a longtime category killer in the United States that is meaningfully growing around the world in markets like China, India and Panama. I would also like to thank Nancy London for her many contributions to Starwood and particularly Westin, where she led memorable marketing and advertising programs that have enhanced Westin's reputation as an industry innovator." As Global Brand Leader for Westin Hotels, Povinelli will oversee the overall strategic direction of the brand and its portfolio of more than 170 hotels around the world. In his new role, he will lead the development and execution of the Westin brand's global marketing strategy, guest experience, standards and communications programs and help drive development opportunities. Povinelli originally joined Starwood in 2006 to spearhead global marketing efforts for the Sheraton brand during a pivotal time in its history, managing the re-positioning and marketing activity in support of the brand's $6 billion revitalization efforts. Prior to joining Starwood, Brian served as Vice President of Global Integrated Marketing at Reebok where he was responsible for the brand's advertising, public relations, and overall media strategy. Povinelli is a graduate of James Madison University and resides with his family in Ridgefield, Connecticut.
