HEI Hotels Appoints Joe Shurmur to Manage Detroit Metro
and Randi Hamilton to Manage Detroit Marriott Southfield
DETROIT, October 25, 2010 — HEI Hotels & Resorts (HEI), the nation’s fastest growing private owner/operator of hotel real estate, today announced the appointments of Joe Shurmur to general manager of the Detroit Metro Airport Marriott and Randi Hamilton to general manager of the Detroit Marriott Southfield. Both will report to Michael Miner, senior vice president of operations.
“Joe and Randi have worked with HEI in the Detroit area since 2007 and have an in-depth understanding of the market,” Miner said. “They have solid track records of creating innovative strategies to drive successful sales. We fully expect to leverage their proven leadership skills to draw in guests and put heads in beds as we continue to define ourselves as the competitive leaders in the market.”
Joe Shurmur was transferred to his new position from a general manager post at the HEI-owned and operated Detroit Marriott Southfield. This internal move allows Joe to further his career growth within HEI. Prior to joining the company, Shurmur oversaw the day-to-day operations of the 108-room Omni Hotel in Detroit as general manager. Previously, he was the hotel manager for the Wyndham Philadelphia, where he supervised a staff of over 450. Shurmur holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Michigan State University and became a Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA) through the Educational Institute of the American Hotel & Motel Association.
Located at 30559 Flynn Drive, Romulus, Mich., the 245-room Detroit Metro Airport Marriott Hotel is proximate to The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village, Cobo Hall, IKEA and General Motors corporate headquarters. The four-story property features 37” flat-screen televisions, high-speed wireless internet access, fitness center, indoor swimming pool, complimentary airport and area shuttle services, on-site dining at The Ha’Penny Pub and 14 meeting rooms with 6,600 square feet of flexible space.

Randi Hamilton was promoted to general manager of the Detroit Marriott Southfield following her time as director of operations for the Sheraton Detroit Novi. She entered HEI’s Fast-Track Program, which permits associates accelerated advancement to high-level executive posts. Hamilton was sales manager, guest services director and director of operations for the Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield, Mich., before joining HEI. Previously, she was assistant banquet manager, manager and director of banquets for the Radisson Plaza Hotel in Kalamazoo, Mich. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Business and Human Resource Management from Western Michigan University.
Situated at 27033 Northwestern Highway, Southfield, Mich., the Detroit Marriott Southfield is convenient to Comerica Park, Detroit Zoo and Ford Field. The 225 rooms offer Marriott’s latest elegant bedding package, 37” flat-screen televisions, high-speed Internet access and wireless web television options. The Green-certified hotel features the Fire Iron Grill, a fitness center and 4,335 square feet of flexible meeting space.
