319-room Shangri-La Hotel, Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, China

December 2010 -- Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts today held the groundbreaking ceremony for Shangri-La Hotel, Nanchang. The hotel is scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2013.

Shangri-La Hotel, Nanchang will be located in a multi-use complex built in two phases in the Honggutan New District, adjacent to the government administration office and the city's new convention centre. Phase I will include 319 guestrooms with meeting and function space and recreation facilities. All guestrooms will be contemporary in design with touches reflecting the local cultural heritage. Room sizes will range from 42 to 52 square metres, with the size of the hotel's 18 suites ranging from 84 to 210 square metres. Sixty-five per cent of all rooms will overlook the Ganjiang River and surrounding gardens. One of the four famous Chinese superstructures, the Tengwang Pavilion, and the Old City are located directly across the river.

The hotel will offer various dining and entertainment outlets including an all-day dining restaurant, a speciality restaurant and bar, a Chinese restaurant and a lobby lounge. Meeting and banqueting facilities will include a 1,800-square-metre grand ballroom with a 530-square-metre foyer plus additional function rooms. Recreational options include a 25-metre indoor swimming pool, health club and beauty salon. An outdoor deck near the lobby lounge will allow guests to enjoy the milder summer season. Phase II of the project will include a residential component, shopping area and office tower.

Nanchang has a population of 4.85 million, and is the capital of Jiangxi Province in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. It is the regional hub for agriculture and a centre of production for traditional Chinese medicine and pharmaceuticals. Several international companies maintain manufacturing plants in the area. Excellent air and rail infrastructure connects Nanchang to domestic and international cities. High-speed railways make visits to the neighbouring cities of Hangzhou, Changsha and Shanghai effortless.
