Starwood Hotels & Resorts Opens W New York - Downtown

Nearly 14,000 Applicants Vied for 200 Positions
Company Plans to Introduce 12,000 Jobs to Global Workforce in 2010

July 30, 2010 - W New York - Downtown Hotel & Residencies celebrated the end of Talent Training with an all day bash in true New York Style!  After finishing an in-depth 10-day training program, W New York – Downtown “talent” joined together in a group march through downtown Manhattan to share their excitement with the community.  They ended the day with a special pinning ceremony, and exciting rally to kick-off their new positions at Lower Manhattan’s latest hotel addition.
During W New York - Downtown’s search for new employees, over 13,791 applicants turned up in hopes of landing one of the nearly 200 coveted job openings, which include: Whatever/Whenever Agents, Style Supervisors, Food and Beverage and Welcome Ambassadors.
The Opening of W New York – Downtown marks another step forward in the plan of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: HOT) to introduce 12,000 new jobs to the global workforce in 2010.  Starwood and its development partners are slated to open 80-100 new hotels this year, half of which will span U.S. markets from New York to California. New York is one of its strongest markets, with roughly one in four new hotel rooms to be branded Starwood in 2010 as the company grows its footprint by 50% this year.
W New York - Downtown’s employees, referred to as “talent” in the innovative W vernacular, wrapped up their 10-day training schedule to prepare for the hotel opening. An exciting schedule of events and downtown discovery greeted the “talented” as they were introduced to W’s world of WOW.
