By Margaret Baker, The Sun Herald, Biloxi, Miss.McClatchy-Tribune Regional News

Aug. 07, 2010--BILOXI -- Police arrested a Treasure Bay Casino employee on an embezzlement charge Thursday.

Casino officials contacted Biloxi police to say Lisa Thi Nguyen, 24, of the 1500 block of Pelican Bayou Drive, Biloxi, appeared to have embezzled money while working as lead hotel clerk at the casino.

"They noticed several discrepancies in records and started backtracking," Biloxi police Sgt. Christopher De Back said Friday.

"It's still under investigation."

So far, De Back said, casino officials have uncovered more than $48,500 missing.

Police, De Back said, are trying to determine the time period during which the embezzlement occurred. Nguyen had worked at the casino for 1 1/2 years before officials discovered the missing money and reported it to Biloxi police officers.

Police arrested Nguyen at the casino Thursday.

Nguyen was taken to the Harrison County jail, where Justice Court Judge Bruce Strong set her bond at $25,000.

She remained jailed Friday afternoon, according to booking records.

Felony embezzlement involves the theft of more than $500.

The charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and up to $25,000 in fines.
