July 30--Doug Browne, general manager of The Peabody, is the Tennessee Hospitality Association's Hotelier of the Year. The award was one of several won by Memphis hotels during an association banquet in Murfreesboro. Browne, who has overseen the South's Grand Hotel since January 2003, credited his 500 employees. "They are truly the ones this award belongs to," he said. Crowne Plaza Memphis' Donovan Stephens received Outstanding General Manager of the Year, Large Property for the Memphis market, and Vicky Allen of the Residence Inn Downtown was named Outstanding Manager of the Year, Small Property. The Peabody also garnered an award for best one-time special event among large hotels.
