Droid Does . . . REX:

MTech adds Android Device Support to its Room Expeditor Tool;
REX already running on iPod Touch and iPhone

Orlando June 23, 2010 MTech, a leading developer of Software as a Service (SaaS) products aimed at improving service and efficiency for the hospitality industry, recently revolutionized the housekeeping process in hotels by allowing its Room Expeditor or REX SaaS-based housekeeping application to run on either the iPod Touch or iPhone via the hotels wireless network. To give hotels more options in terms of carriers and network types, MTech has extended support for REX to Android, the new mobile operating system powered by Google. The Android application for REX is on display this week at the Hospitality Industry Technology Exposition & Conference (HITEC) this week at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.

At a time when technology providers are deploying solutions on the iPod Touch and iPhone, we have already tackled those applications and are looking at the next set of devices required to meet the needs of our diverse client base," said Luis Segredo, MTech Founder and President. "We love the Apple platform and are huge fans. Still, some of our customers needed options, so we responded.

The look and feel of REX on Android is very similar to the iPod application, he said.  Hotels that are challenged with Wi-Fi or AT&T cellular coverage can now consider an Android device. In addition, various cellular wireless carriers have set special REX data plans for Android devices that are very attractive. Version 2.1 of the Android operating system is required.

With REX, a room attendant refers to his or her Droid to be instructed on 'the next most important room' to clean, Segredo said. Then the software will look at a collection of variables from multiple systems like the property-management and in-room energy-management systems to determine if a guest is waiting and what his or her VIP status is, or if the next room is still physically occupied. Because the room attendant just sees the next room, its simpler than any paper process."

Which technology most impacted the hospitality industry in 2009? According to leading industry technologists, it was REX (Room Expeditor) from MTech. The leading developer of Software as a Service (SaaS) products aimed at improving service and efficiency for the hospitality industry was presented with "The Most Innovative Hospitality Technology Award" by Hotel Technology Next Generation (HTNG) during its North American Members' Meeting on March 3.
