News for the Hospitality Executive
Las Vegas — June 15, 2010 — Shopping the Exhibit Hall at the 2010 Hospitality Industry Technology Exposition & Conference (HITEC) next week in Orlando will be easier than ever before due to "The Power of One" from Cenium Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).
With Cenium, a hotel needs only ONE source to provide ONE Database and ONE Solution to replace ALL property software systems and interfaces. Cenium replaces existing PMS, Retail/POS, CRM, Sales and Catering, Concierge, Engineering and Workforce management, Time and Attendance, Human Resources, Payroll, Loyalty and Business Intelligence/Financials and more with ONE system for full property-wide and enterprise-wide reporting.
"It's going to take some time for the industry to get used to the concept of 'ONE Database, ONE Solution' and really embrace a single and fully-automated system, but it will happen," said Terry Price, Chief Information Officer for Grove Park Inn, Resort & Spa in Asheville, N.C. "I honestly believe that Cenium is changing the face of software for the global hospitality industry."
The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa is the second hotel in North America to experience the Power of One with Cenium. Installation of the ERP Solution began in the Spring, with over a dozen peripheral property systems replaced. Today, training is underway, and the property expects to go live with Cenium in the coming months.
"Once we are live with Cenium this Summer, I will finally be able to say that the system integration headache I have been living with for the last 12 years is finally gone," Price said. "Thanks to Cenium and ERP, the Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa will soon operate smarter and more efficiently; we will save on training time, support fees and upgrade costs; we will be better equipped to identify who our guests are and how much they will spend; and finally, we will make more money than ever before, all thanks to Cenium."
ERP is No. 1 at Blue Mountain
John Gowers, Director of IT at the Blue Mountain Resort in Ontario, Canada, was first in North America to grasp the Power of One concept. The resort began with a phase-in approach, installing financials and procurement first, then adding property management, food and beverage, retail, human resources, and others in what Gowers called "logical order."
Nine years ago when I joined Blue Mountain, I saw there were far too many IT systems, many of which did a lot of the same things,” Gowers said. “We needed to find ONE system that did it all. Unfortunately, hospitality is a best-of-breed industry that requires operators to be at the mercy of multiple vendors to provide connecting pieces to the integration puzzle. But we put that thinking aside and became first to roll out Cenium. And quite frankly, we are so thrilled that we did!
"Since we added Cenium in February, we have reduced our vendor support fees by 40 percent," he said. "We've simplified our operations, reduced the amount of time we spend on vendor management, lessened our system complexity, and more importantly, we have a platform for growth. In the past, when one of our team had an IT request, the only word out of my mouth was 'No' because it would have been too cost prohibitive. Today I am delighted to be able to say 'Yes. We can certainly do that' now that we operate on an ERP platform with Cenium."
Jeff Kiehn, president of Cenium North America, said: "We encourage everyone attending HITEC who is interested in reducing labor costs, lowering vendor maintenance fees and server storage costs, working with only one solution vendor vs. 17+, implementing system upgrades across the property automatically and simultaneously from one direct source, and providing a better experience for guests and staff to visit us in Booth ONE-29 (129). What Cenium offers is exactly what the hospitality industry has been waiting for and working towards for so many years. While we understand the widespread industry skepticism, hoteliers should not underestimate the Power of One. With Microsoft as our partner in bringing ERP to hospitality, we believe, as do our customers, that this is' the' direction that hospitality technology is headed for years to come."
