April 4, 2010 --THE InterContinental Regency Bahrain yesterday closed its doors for the first time in nearly 30 years to undergo a multi-million dollar renovation.

The hotel's management and staff celebrated the closing and presented to the last guests an invitation to enjoy a free weekend stay in the new hotel when it reopens at the beginning of 2011.

General manager James McDonald said special celebrations were held last night at outlets Clipper's and Berdaouni with various activities, promotions and prizes to thank all the hotel's guests for their continuous loyalty.

"The hotel has been part of many people's lives, providing visitors far more than just a place to sleep and an outstanding service, becoming not simply a home away from home, but a meeting hub within Manama city," he said.

"The newly renovated facility will feature high-tech meetings and events facilities as well as new food and beverage outlets.

"These will include a steak house, Lebanese, international and Italian restaurants and a sophisticated entertainment venue."

Mr McDonald said there would also be considerable investment in upgrading the technical infrastructure in keeping with the requirements of the sophisticated clientele who frequent the hotel and in compliance with fast-changing environmental requirements.

"InterContinental Regency earned the loyalty and love of its guests by offering exceptional levels of service and attention to each and every detail throughout the years," he said.

"It has captured a sophisticated style of hospitality, and after renovation we expect to become the leading five-star business hotel in Bahrain in terms of product, service and location."
