Destination Hotels & Resort Evolves Revenue Optimization
Program to Grow Associates and Instill New Practices
that Garner Significant Returns

Englewood, Colo. March 3, 2010 Over the last five years Destination Hotels & Resorts has made great strides to restructure its revenue optimization community (aka revenue management) both at the corporate and property level. The changes that have been made are helping to grow both company associates and its bottom line.

It might sound simple, but one of the biggest changes we made internally was calling revenue management revenue optimization to get everyone in the company thinking about how they can impact the companys bottom line, said Tyler Williams, vice president of revenue services for Destination Hotels & Resorts. Its no longer just about heads in beds, its about maximizing the revenue from all booking opportunities whether electronic, through global distribution services, direct bookings and more.

In 2009 alone, Williams team helped the company achieve market share growth in 48 out of 52 weeks and electronic bookings were up 20 percent for the year. We were incredibly pleased with these outcomes, especially in a down economy, said Williams. We attribute this to our team in the field and the associates that we work with on a daily basis.

To grow its talent in revenue services, Destination recently launched an industry-leading incentive plan for its optimization teams, which not only rewards for revenue and market share performance, but also allows properties to identify specific areas that they would like to focus on for the year.

Destination also recognizes leaders in revenue services each year at the companys annual sales and marketing conference. The following awards were given out at the companys national sales conference at the new Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.  The event, which took place January 6-10, drew more than 190 participants from more than 30 properties across the United States.

  • Rising Star Jim Phelan, director of revenue optimization at the Carolina Inn
  • Revenue Optimizer of the Year Sarah Steinmetz, director of revenue optimization at The Inverness Hotel & Conference Center in Denver
  • Reservations Sales Leader of the Year Angela Shaughnessy, director of reservations and revenue management at Suncadia Resort in Cle Elum, Wash.
Acknowledging our associates for the successes theyve accomplished especially during a tough year in the hospitality industry is a key component to recognizing and retaining talent, added Williams.
