By Ida Brown, The Meridian Star, Miss.McClatchy-Tribune Regional News

Feb. 4, 2010--MERIDIAN -- With an opening date just two months away, construction crews are working nonstop at the new location for Holiday Inn Meridian.

Located at 100 North Frontage Road, the new Holiday Inn is not your mom and dad's Holiday Inn. There's still the long hallways, spacious rooms and the pool, but there's also a whole lot more, including five floors with 122 rooms; suites with an extended living area; restaurant and lounge; a fitness center; Wi Fi Internet; and a 2,400-square-foot conference room, which divides into three sections.

And to assure that each visit or stay is a pleasant one, a six-member management team is in place.

"We are pleased with the level of talent we have been able to bring on board," said Dede Mogollon, general manager. "We have the right management team in place to make this hotel a success."

In addition to Mogollon, the management team includes Jeremy Campbell, director of sales; Billy Hopkins, food and beverage director; Bryant Betts, executive chef; Mamie Walker, guest services manager; and Robert Verdin, chief engineer.

The 74,000-square-foot hotel is owned by Lala Enterprises and boasts several unique features.

"We have a full-service restaurant and lounge that seats 150, and we provide shuttle service to the airport and local areas, including the MSU Riley Center -- that's a first for this area," Mogollon said.

The hotel's 122 rooms include eight suites, which feature an extended living area, a sleeper sofa, coffee table, dining room table with chairs and wet bar with utensils. In addition, nine rooms are handicap accessible with rolling showers. And, 106 rooms are non-smoking.

Other room features include pillow-top mattresses, refrigerator, microwave, 32-inch flatscreen TVs with cable, wireless and wired Internet, two-line speaker phones, work desk and in-room coffee.

Seventy-nine rooms have king beds, while 43 have double queen beds.

The Holiday Inn will also feature a Kem's Cafe All-American Cuisine and Lounge located on the first floor. This will serve breakfast and dinner to hotel guests and local patrons, as well as feature room service.

"We are excited about bringing such an expansive food and beverage operation to Meridian," said Hopkins. "Our hotel management team has over 70 years of food and beverage experience to ensure all aspects of our operation are a success."

The hotel has a 3,800 square-foot meeting space, which includes a banquet facility that seats 150 people and a large pre-function area with floor-to-ceiling windows. Full service on-premise and off-premise catering will be provided.

In addition to space, the meeting facilities feature LCD Projector and Screen availability, TV/DVD availability and wipeboard.

Rounding out the Holiday Inn's amenities includes an indoor pool and sun deck, fitness center, business center, complimentary parking, bus/truck parking, guest and valet laundry and room service. Local News Holiday Inn offers a new way to stay
