Distrikt Hotel, an Ascend Collection Opens in Midtown Manhattan
with Design Inspired by the City of New York

February 1, 2010 (New York, NY) – Today marks the Grand Opening of the Distrikt Hotel in Manhattan, embracing the look and spirit of the borough's many “distrikts” with neighborhood-themed floors from the Financial District to Harlem. Whether checking into the “Soho” on floor 12 or “Chelsea” on floor 20, guests will be assured of the same outstanding service, convenient location, and distinctive New York style. The sleek, skyscraper hotel is also home to Collage restaurant, celebrating New York foodie favorites paired with local beers.

The soul of Distrikt Hotel lies in its full-on celebration of Manhattan.
OTTE Architecture, the New York-based firm that designed the hotel, tapped artist Chris Rubino to put local style on full display with giant, back-lit collages of iconic neighborhood scenes on each floor. The collages were composed from over 10,000 photographs distilling the essence and style of Chelsea, The Village, Midtown West, Midtown East, Central Park, Soho, the Lower East Side, Tribeca, Harlem and the Financial District. The New York-centric design theme continues in the hotel lobby, where an 11-foot green “living wall” representing Central Park, an installation inspired by Manhattan’s grid, and a subway themed elevator bank illustrate the city’s most renowned features.

Located at 342 West 40th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues in Midtown Manhattan, the Distrikt Hotel offers 155 guestrooms with tech-savvy amenities including free wireless internet, flat-screen TVs and iHome docking stations, complemented with plush Frette bedding and robes as well as ECRU New York bath amenities. Upper floors feature unobstructed views of the city, the Hudson River or both. The hotel is just steps from Times Square, the Fashion District, and the myriad sights, sounds and scenes that make its home the greatest city in the world.

Collage is a stylish and contemporary dining venue offering New York-inspired cuisine for guests with an appetite after combing the city’s streets. The menu is created from freshest ingredients procured from local purveyors. And in a city that takes drinking seriously, Collage’s enticing beverage selection features an assortment of local microbrews and soft beverages as well as a stunning array of signature cocktails.
