Desires Hotels Appoints Carey Rushatz as New Director of Sales and Marketing
for Hotel Mela in New York City

Thursday, February 11, 2010 - New York, NY – Desires Hotels, the unique collection of independently created modern boutique hotels, today announced the appointment of Carey Rushatz as the Director of Sales and Marketing for the Hotel Mela in New York City. In this role, Rushatz will handle the development and execution of the total sales and marketing efforts of the hotel, including securing new accounts, supervising activities of sales personnel, and implementing sales and marketing strategies to maximize profitability. Rushatz holds more than 10 years of proven sales success in the hotel industry, offering the Hotel Mela the opportunity to draw upon her wealth of experience.

Throughout her diverse career, Rushatz has carried out a full range of marketing functions including brand development, competitive positioning, and market segmentation. Prior to her appointment, Rushatz was the Director of Business Travel Sales for Highgate Hotels in New York City.

At Highgate Hotels, Rushatz was a member of a team that launched the cluster concept of business sales for four prominent independent and branded New York City hotels, which had an excess of 2,600 rooms. Before this, Rushatz was the Director of Sales and Marketing for On The Ave Hotel in New York City where she was in charge of overseeing all sales and marketing efforts for the boutique hotel. Prior to that appointment, Rushatz acted as the Director of Business Transient Sales for Hilton Newark at Penn Station and Doubletree Hotel Newark Airport.

Rushatz is a Penn State University graduate and was a two time recipient of the Master Connections Star Award in 2007. “Carey’s ten years of experience with both branded and boutique hotel products make her a critical part of our sales and marketing strategy going forward,” says Bob Sassani, General Manager of the Hotel Mela.  “Her proven leadership and ability to maintain accounts makes her a very valuable member of our team.”
