What Does the Future Hold? New Forecasting Book Helps Hospitality
Professionals Anticipate Business and Economic Trends
.

Lansing, Michigan, September 2009In an age of economic and political turmoil, hospitality executives must plan for business conditions one, five, or ten years ahead. But how can anyone anticipate events such as the global economic collapse of 2008? In Hospitality 2015: The Future of Hospitality and Travel, a new book published by the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (EI), two leading futurists and a hospitality educator offer a primer of business forecasting, then apply their methodology to identify trends and extrapolate likely world and industry developments and events based on those trends.

Authors Marvin J. Cetron, Frederick DeMicco, and Owen Davies detail 55 specific trends and discuss how those trends are likely to affect the hospitality and travel industryincluding restaurants, tourism, airlines, the cruise industry, meetings, and expositionsin the next several years.  They look at topics including hospitality in the age of terrorism, medical tourism, the world economy, and advances in technology.

If this recession teaches us anything, it shows that every executive, middle manager, and student in the tourism and hospitality industry needs to learn how to anticipate change, said Robert A. Gilbert, CHME, CHA, president and CEO of Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International, in his foreword to the book. He adds, If anyone can teach practical forecasting for travel and hospitality and show us what lies ahead, these authors are the obvious choices.

Hospitality 2015: The Future of Hospitality and Travel is available from the Educational Institute for $59.95; $39.95 for AH&LA members. For more information or to order, visit www.ahlei.org or call 800-752-4567 or 517-372-8800.  Outside the U.S. and Canada, call 407-999-8100.
