Warwick International Completes Renovations at the Warwick
No Two Guest Rooms Are Exactly Alike
DALLAS (May 12, 2009) – You would never guess that she is celebrating her 85th "birthday” in 2009. The Warwick Melrose Dallas Hotel, which opened its doors in 1924, is more beautiful today than at any time in her past, having just unveiled a multi-million dollar, year-long renovation to its guest rooms and suites.
"Every room received a complete makeover,” said Larry McAfee, general manager of the Warwick Melrose Dallas. "Fabrics, including carpets, drapery and bedding, every piece of furniture, paint, artwork, light fixtures – even the TVs, coffee makers and clock-radios with iPod dock are all new. Yet, when you enter a room, your first impression is not 'new' – it's 'luxury,' 'glamour' and 'comfort.' We wanted tasteful opulence that would be inviting to a modern traveler. Hollywood of the 1920s seemed the era that best represented that blend, and it ties to the timeframe in which the hotel opened,” said McAfee.
The Warwick Melrose Dallas, a AAA Four-Diamond hotel, is part of the Warwick Hotels International group, which includes five North American hotels and 39 throughout Europe, Asia and the South Pacific. "Our owner, Richard Chiu, has a vision to make the Warwick Melrose Hotel an international destination,” said McAfee. "In these economic times, most hotels are scaling back plans or deferring renovations, but Mr. Chiu is committed to strategic investments that further the Warwick brand, and he is particularly interested in establishing the brand in Dallas.”
One of the design firms employed for the project was Black Box Interiors of London, who has done work for several other Warwick International Hotels, including the Warwick Brussels and the Warwick Denver.
RUST AND BRONZE PALETTES
"The Warwick Melrose Hotel was originally a combination hotel/apartment building when it opened, and so our rooms are all unique sizes and shapes, and all of our rooms are spacious and even over-sized,” said McAfee. "Similarly, although there are common elements among the newly redone rooms, no two are exactly alike.”
Corner King Rooms and suites (40 rooms) revel in a "Rust” color palette for the fabrics, and feature a half-canopy above the bed, upholstered in the same fabric as the drapes and valences. Other guest rooms bask in a "Bronze” color influence for fabrics. Light shades of cognac, coffee and cream were chosen for wall colors. Furnishings are a mixture of dark woods, some with mirrored accents (such as TV consoles), upholstered sofas and chairs, and lovely muted silver night and occasional tables in a classically designed "French” empire style, topped with antiqued mirrored glass. Lamps are silver Bouillot style with black shades, and suites feature crystal chandeliers.
New bedding features rich chocolate, claret and golden brocade bedcovers over crisp white Italian Fili D'Oro duvets and 400-thread-count sheets. Down-filled sleeping pillows are ready for sweet dreams.
The renovations extend into the bathrooms, which offer newly refinished tubs, shower rods and curtains. The existing European marble floors have been freshly polished and regrouted.
The one item in the room that would not be recognized by a Hollywood star circa 1924 is the new flat-screen Samsung TVs in all rooms, ranging from 37-42”. Artwork created by Dallas artist Ann Parks is also new, but fits in well with the overall ambiance because it features black and white images of architectural details from the Warwick Melrose Hotel exterior. Close-up shots of stone griffins or details on carved arches are original touches that reinforce the classic nature of the décor.
OTHER AMENITIES AND ATMOSPHERE
Whether guests are spending time in their rooms or are elsewhere in the hotel, they are certain to enjoy the intimate atmosphere, world-class personal service and amenities of the Warwick Melrose Dallas. The hotel offers gourmet food via the AAA Four-Diamond Landmark Restaurant, which has also received the prestigious DiRoNa award and the Wine Spectator award. The Executive Chef and his team also oversee tasteful delights for a variety of catered events. (With over 6,000 square feet of meeting space, the Warwick Melrose Dallas can comfortably accommodate groups up to 300 people, and it is a popular spot for business and social gatherings.) The hotel's beloved Library Bar was also completely renovated in 2008, and offers an elegant setting for cocktails, upscale bar food and live jazz musical entertainment.
