Paul J. Gusst Appointed Executive Chef for the Lancaster County
Convention Center and Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square
.

LANCASTER, Pa. May 7, 2009 - The Lancaster County Convention Center and Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square recently named Paul J. Gusst, Certified Executive Chef (CEC), as executive chef. Chef Paul is responsible for directing the highest standards of quality throughout all food and beverage operations at the convention center and 300-room hotel. The integrated facility, scheduled to open later this spring, has a combined total of 90,000 square feet of meeting space. After growing up on a Mennonite-owned dairy farm in Lancaster County and being away from Pennsylvania for 10 years, the native Philadelphian is looking forward to combining his fish and seafood specialty dishes with his passion for community involvement. Gusst currently resides in Clay, N.Y. (www.lancasterconventioncenter.com, www.lancastermarriott.com).

Gusst has more than 15 years of experience in the food service industry with eight of those as an executive chef. Most recently, he worked as the executive chef at Doubletree Hotel Syracuse in New York, where he was in charge of creating and implementing seasonal menus, as well as training and developing the sous and banquet chefs. Chef Paul also supervised three managers and a staff of more than 30 employees.

Its important to draw connections between the region and the menu, said Chef Paul, CEC. I plan to use local and sustainable foods including herbs, chicken, greens and cheese as often as possible.  Thats what its all about.

Gussts career has taken him from Philadelphia and Manhattan to Memphis and Syracuse. Since 2000, he has been a member of the Syracuse Chapter of the American Culinary Federation where he has served as vice president and most recently as president. He looks forward to getting involved with the local chapter, the Susquehanna Valley Chefs Association. Gusst won the coveted Chef of the Year award and earned the title of Certified Executive Chef in July 2008 from the American Culinary Federation, distinguishing him as only the fifth CEC in central New York. Apart from his avid passion for food, Gusst is involved with several different charitable organizations such as the Red Cross and also involves himself with the Scouts Exploring program giving students the chance to tour his restaurants and job shadow. One of the most rewarding positions he held was being on the Board of Directors for the Samaritan Center, a soup kitchen which fed everyone from homeless to elders who do not get any human contact to single moms and dads who just cant put a nutritious meal on the table for their family. Chef Paul graduated from The Restaurant School of Philadelphia at Walnut Hill in 1994.

Were so thrilled to have Chef Paul, with such experience and expertise, onboard to lead our culinary team, not to mention his inspiring level of commitment to community service, said Josh Nowak, director of sales and marketing for Lancaster County Convention Center and Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square. He brings his vision of quality to Lancaster as well as his passion for seafood and other delectables.
