Ace Hotel & Guest-Tek Create Custom Video-on-Demand System

.

Culture is important at Ace Hotel, and we are always looking for creative ways to improve the guest experience. So for our new hotels, Ace Hotel New York and Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs, we worked with Guest-Tek to create one of a kind Video on Demand system with a unique mix of independent and mainstream content to bring culture further into the Ace experience. “We see this system as an innovation in guest experience and a way to create a new forum for independent film makers,” says Ace co-owner Alex Calderwood.

CONTENT
Ace is providing custom content from indie directors and studios. This includes material from indie-driven film festivals like the Asian American International Film Festival, Portland Institute for Contemporary art and large indie studios such as Independent Film Channel (IFC).

The initial lineup includes films from IFC and TLA Releasing, as well as film shorts from Arkitip Magazine. The content will grow and evolve over time, and be location-specific: Each city’s hotel will have films that focus on that locale. At Ace Palm Springs there will be Plagues and Pleasures, A Documentary on the Salton Sea, and in New York we will offer Death Bowl to Downtown, about the history of skateboarding in NYC.

In the future, there will also be streaming radio with worldwide stations, and custom content that is produced by the Ace Hotel.

SYSTEM
Guest-Tek Interactive Entertainment Ltd. worked with Ace to install a fully digital, internet protocol (IP) system that will allow high quality internet access and High-Definition (HD) Video-on-Demand entertainment programming from the leading providers of HD content to be delivered to each of their 258 guest rooms in New York and 180 guest rooms in Palm Springs, plus content from independent producers selected by Ace Hotel.

"We are very excited to be partnering with Ace Hotel because they incorporate the needs and desires of their customers into the amenities and services they provide,” said Arnon Levy, CEO of Guest-Tek.

Ace is providing custom content from indie directors and studios, as well as the current Hollywood releases and adult films. The wide range of content will have an equally wide price range, giving the guest more choice. Ace designers also created a custom interface, a photo collage that echoes the Ace website design, to replace the default screen.

ABOUT ACE HOTEL
Ace is the low card and the high card. We renovate old buildings to re-examine the American hotel. Our rooms are affordable but replete with cool amenities. We are in New York, Palm Springs, Portland, and Seattle. Culture, collaborations, and a design aesthetic that mixes uncluttered comfort with a bohemian vibe are Ace’s trademark—tailored to each city’s sense of place. Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs transforms a midcentury motel into an Ace-style desert resort. Ace Hotel New York recalls turn-of-the-century Times Square with a building from 1904. Ace Hotel Portland evokes the city's rock n' roll soul in a building from 1912. And Ace Hotel Seattle is a modern space in an old rooming house in Belltown.
