Guy Hutchinson Appointed General Manager of the Hilton Shanghai
.

October 22, 2008 - Guy Hutchinson was appointed General Manager of the Hilton Shanghai in March 2008, a landmark Hilton property that enjoys a reputation as one of the first international hotels to open in China.

Born in Caracas Venezuela to a British father and French Mauritian mother, Guy was raised and educated in South Africa. He started his 20 year career in hospitality in London, where he embarked on the prestigious Graduate Management Programme developed by Trusthouseforte Hotels. The programme led to management positions with Forte Hotels, at properties such as the Waldorf (London), The Queens Hotel Cheltenham and the world famous Browns Hotel in London.

In 1997, Guy joined Hilton Hotels Corporation as Director of Business Development at the Hilton Amsterdam, a property undergoing a US$45 million renovation. In 2000 he was appointed as Hotel Manager of the Hilton Dubai Creek, a 154-room boutique hotel under development in the United Arab Emirates. There he oversaw the construction, launch and operations of the hotel and introduced the award winning restaurant, Verre, part of a unique collaboration with Gordon Ramsay, Londons Michelin three-star chef.

The year 2002 brought a transfer to Tokyo as Director of Operations of the Hilton Tokyo Bay, one of the largest properties in the Hilton portfolio. There Guy managed extensive room enhancements including the addition of Family Suites and 43 Deluxe Plus Rooms and the development of the Jeffrey Beers International designed restaurant, the square, serving 2000 guests per day.

Prior to his move to China, Guy had been General Manager of the Hilton Cairns in Australia since 2005, during which time he steered the hotel through an expansion of its market mix, which has seen the property emerge as a market leader among the citys five star hotels. Additionally he oversaw a significant renovation of public areas and the addition of a wedding chapel.

A keen sportsman, Guy is also an enthusiastic student of international cultures and has a passion for hotel and restaurant design.
