in Downtown Wilmington, North Carolina

CN Hotels has announced plans to construct a 7 story 125-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel at the corner of Second and Grace Streets in downtown Wilmington, NC. Partner Mitul Patel stated that his organization is excited about becoming a part of the vibrant and growing downtown area.

The announcement is the result of months of preparation including site acquisition, preliminary design and project planning. Local participants include Mike Hargett, owner of Hargett Realty & Development, David Barefoot, attorney with Smith Moore Leatherwood and Todd Toconis representing the Seller. The development team includes Overcash & Demmitt Architects of Charlotte and Tripp Engineering of Wilmington.

Mayor Bill Saffo welcomed the project stating "This project is another example of the growth and vitality of our downtown, and of the importance this area's growth has on our economic development. The city is excited about this project and welcomes the continued growth and jobs creation it brings."

Avril Pinder, County Finance Director commented New Hanover County is thrilled with this announcement.  We are fortunate we are able to provide parking to enable this project to move forward. The owners of this project should be applauded for their efforts to help revitalize the downtown area. In light of current economic situations, the new hotel will be tangible evidence that the New Hanover County area is a great place in which to do business.

Wilmington Downtown, Inc. executive director John Hinnant issued the following statement:

This investment by CN Hotels will have a tremendous economic impact on the business environment downtown.  Not only will the hotel guests have an instant impact on our shops and restaurant, but the regional business community will have another trusted name brand to rely on for their visiting clients. The Marriott will be another great lodging option for tourists and visitors to our area.  The convenience of a major name brand, within the core of Wilmingtons historic central business district will offer visitors the convenience and amenities that historic downtown Wilmington has to offer.
