Stefan Bollhalder Appointed General Manager
of the Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong

September 24, 2008 - An international hotel veteran with a wealth of 30 years work experience in the travel and hospitality industry, Mr. Stefan Bollhalder has been appointed general manager of the deluxe harbour front Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong. Prior to this, he was the general manager of Shangri-Las China World Hotel, Beijing.

I am truly delighted to join this well-established property, known for its legendary and caring hospitality delivered by a professional team of high-spirited colleagues.  The hotels impressive ratio of repeat guests of over 50 per cent and low staff turnover of 7 per cent contributes to the success of the hotel.  In addition, the recent major renovations, from the top floors to the underground levels and from the heart to the front of the house, have made the hotel almost like new.  In todays keen competition, I will lead my team of more than 700 employees to do our utmost to delight our guests at every single contact, and to bring the hotel to the next level of excellence, commented by Mr. Bollhalder.

Educated in his native Switzerland, Mr. Bollhalder embarked on his professional hotel career in his home country in 1978. In 1980, he accepted his first overseas hotel assignment in New Zealand. Mr. Bollhalder first became general manager of an international hotel chain property in Kathmandu, Nepal in 1998. This was followed by subsequent general manager positions in Baku, Azerbaijan and Hamburg, Germany.

In 2001, Mr. Bollhalder joined the Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts group as general manager of the 668-room Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta in Indonesia.  After two years in Jakarta, Mr. Bollhalder took the helm at the landmark 716-room China World Hotel, Beijing, which was chosen as a 2008 Beijing Olympic VIP Hotel, home to nearly 40 heads of state and members of royalty for the Opening Ceremony of the Games. Under Mr. Bollhalders leadership, China World Hotel, Beijing achieved record highs in revenues and profitability, as well as receiving various internationally recognised awards.
