Sunnyvale-based VSi is now rolling out Rent-A-PC™, a product/service solution to problems long associated with renting laptops computers to guests.
“Offering laptops for guests to rent has been a big challenge for hotels because a hotel staffer has to ensure that all previous user data and files are removed and the laptop is ready to be rented to the next user,” said VSi President Saeed Kazmi. “Sometimes it can take a hotel IT person hours to scrub a system and get it ready for the next guest. VSi's Rent-A-PC™ takes all of these headaches out of laptop rental because Rent-A-PC™ is built using VSi's FreshStart™ Technology."
FreshStart is VSi’s proprietary security software that purges all user data and resets the laptop to its original state in less than a minute with a single click.
“With Rent-A-PC™, a guest can keep the laptop as long as he or she needs it—a few hours, a day or a week,” Kazmi said. “Data is secure on the laptop just as it would be on a PC. The best part is that, at the end of the rental period, the guest or hotel staff clicks on an icon and the rented laptop instantly becomes a fresh machine—all the guest’s data is purged, and total security and data protection is assured.”
Another attractive feature of Rent-A-PC™ is that VSi makes it possible to not only rent a secure laptop, but various applications as well. Depending on the size, certain applications or patches may be remotely uploaded to the laptop.
“Think about it—when business travelers are going to a meeting, there is always a need to make that last-minute change to a presentation or proposal,” Kazmi added. “Most business travelers nowadays carry their documents on a mobile storage device—and now they can rent a laptop to update files or connect to the Internet while they’re on the go. There is no longer a need for guests to carry their own laptop along. In short, Rent-A-PC™ affords maximum mobility and flexibility for business travelers.”
