Long Time Fairmont Dallas Executive Tomas de la Mataa
Retiring After 34 Years

.

Dallas, Texas (April 17, 2008) Mark S. Huntley, Regional Vice President & General Manager of The Fairmont Dallas announced today the retirement of longtime Catering Director Tomas de la Mata. In his almost thirty-four years with The Fairmont Dallas, Tomas has proved invaluable in making our hotel the citys preferred destination for thousands of cultural, civic and charitable events, said Huntley, and we are extremely grateful to him for more than three decades of creativity, professionalism and dedication to The Fairmont Dallas.

Mr. de la Mata originally joined The Fairmont Dallas in 1970 the year after the hotel opened. November 27, 1970 was my first day at the Fairmont and the happiest day of my life, says Mr. de la Mata, and since that time, I have had the honor of working with the most outstanding leaders in the hospitality industry.  It is my belief that serving others is a privilege and it has truly been a privilege to serve the guests of the Fairmont.  It goes without saying that my colleagues and clients have been a central part of my life as well as my successes and I will miss them."

During his career at The Fairmont Dallas, Tomas has served as a Captain in the famed Pyramid Room, Room Service Manager, Pyramid Room Assistant Manager and later its Manager, Banquet Manager and finally Catering Director since 1983.

According to a February 1999 profile on Tomas in The Dallas Morning News, "The true essence of Tomas is that he makes everyone feel good, from the maintenance crew to presidents of large corporations and celebrities. He often becomes close friends with those who organize events at the Fairmont.

On behalf of everyone at the hotel, said Shannah Milstead, Director of Sales & Marketing, I want to sincerely thank Tomas for his many years of service and recognize his efforts in making The Fairmont Dallas a bastion of luxury, sophistication and refinement throughout his long career with us. He will be genuinely missed as a treasured part of our team.

Mr. de la Matas retirement will be effective July 3, 2008. Tomas and his wife Pamela will continue to reside in Dallas, Texas, the city they love, and will travel to Marbella and Madrid, Spain to visit family.
