Staff Retention Issues Felt
Globally
April 2008 - Hotels around the world
are finding it harder to recruit and train good workers. One official
with InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) calls the problem nothing less
than a "global war for talent, for skilled, experienced hotel staff." (1)
IHG says
it will need about 120,000 new workers to staff the 1,500 hotels it has
in development worldwide, and Marriott expects to need 23,000 new employees
in its overseas markets this year alone.
A challenge for management is strengthening the hotels bond with its workers at a time when they are being hotly pursued by other luxury hotels. It is especially challenging to hire and retain workers in cities which have seen the opening of several luxury properties in recent years. Smart hoteliers look for answers by focusing on communication, training, and the implementation of new processes. Industry leaders are partnering with Hostar International, Inc., to put an effective housekeeping material management system in place in their hotels to assist their employees. The ProHost® System, designed and developed by Hostar International, Inc. presents a professional appearance while boosting moral and productivity of the housekeeping department. Room attendants no longer search for needed supplies to complete room assignments. This eliminates employee frustration, increases productivity, and allows staff to focus more time on guestroom cleanliness. Hoteliers wishing to eliminate employee back strain and fatigue have found that Hostars powered mobiles are an excellent way to keep room attendants healthy and happy. In addition to housekeeping benefits, laundry operations run more efficiently with an increased dialogue between the two departments. Hotels that have implemented a ProHost® System have discovered that a sound distribution process is one of the keys to keeping their housekeeping employees satisfied and productive. Hostars worldwide customer base ranges from 150 room luxury boutique hotels to 3,000 room mega properties. Sales representative offices are located in Dallas, Dubai, Los Angeles, Macau, New York, Seattle, Singapore and Sydney. ProHost® equipment is assembled and shipped from Hostar facilities near Cleveland , Ohio, USA.
