HORSHAM, PA. MARCH 26, 2008 Last week more than 600 Human Resource professionals in the Hotel, Restaurant and Foodservice industries gathered in Las Vegas to attend the 2nd Annual National HR in Hospitality Conference & Expo.  The event, produced by Human Resource Executive® Magazine, Cornell Universitys School of Hotel Administration and School of Industrial and Labor Relations, provided an information-packed forum where tough issues were tackled, ideas were shared, and relationships were made.

We predicted the 2008 event would be a winner, and we were right, said Harry Katz, Dean, Cornell University, ILR School, Ithaca, N.Y. Attendees loved the interactive, sector-specific sessions for Hotel, Restaurant and Foodservice practitioners. The hot-topic discussions, each of which were repeated once, were the most popular mostly because of the depth of discussion and the urgent, timely nature of the topics. The six-roundtable discussions also were a big hit they were widely attended and received great praise for the interaction between speakers and attendees, and attendees among themselves.

This event has proven itself to be valuable to all who attend, and we are confident that it is an event that will only grow in popularity, he said. We would like to thank our valued speakers for helping us to put together such an informative, and thought-provoking program, and we welcome feedback from all participants so that we can strive to make the 2009 event even better.

Attendee Katy Milarta, director of Human Resources for Dallas-based Aimbridge Hospitality, a hotel real estate and management company, said she found the conference valuable for networking purposes and information takeaway, specifically compliance and legislation.

Current event discussions, including the Employee Free Choice Act and the ramifications for employers, as well as retaliation and workplace privacy were helpful in preparing human resources on how to deal with these issues should they arise, she said. Equally important, taking a proactive approach to decrease liability, was also addressed.  I definitely plan on attending next years conference!

Exceptional Expo

The HR in Hospitality Expo also met with rave reviews. The expo provided a forum to further assist attendees through exposure to products and services related to: Benefits Administration, Compensation Systems & Services, Dependant Care Programs, Diversity Hiring/Compliance Training, Drug/Substance Abuse Testing, Employee Assistance Programs, Employee Communications, Enterprise HR Outsourcing & BPO & RPO, Foodservices, Health Benefits & HSAs, HR Consulting, HRO, HRIS & Web-based Services, Insurance, legal, Logo Wear & Uniforms, Payroll Software & Services, Payroll Screening and Assessment, Recruitment, Retirement & 401(K) Services, Safety & Security Services, Training, Wealth Benefits & Group Life, Disability & Workers and more.

The HR in Hospitality Expo is a terrific venue for HR professionals in the Hospitality industry to come face-to-face with services and programs that can help them in their daily tasks, said exhibitor Cordell Clinger, Convention Manager at O.C. Tanner Company in Salt Lake City. We were pleased with the exposure and interest in our products and services.  The topics at the conference were timely and generated great conversations in our booth.  I would highly recommend attendance at this event for target marketing and selling.  Great job to the entire conference team!

The 3rd Annual National HR in Hospitality Conference is scheduled for March 1619, 2009, at Disneys Contemporary Resort in Florida. The event will build on the strengths of this years program.
