EIs Revised Supervisory Skill Builders Programs Offer Targeted
Training for Lodging, Food Service, Gaming, and Clubs
.
March 2008, Orlando, Fla.Hospitality supervisors play an important role in the effective functioning of any hospitality operation. Supervisory Skill Builders, Third Edition, a nine-workbook training program from the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute, helps prepare new supervisors for their many responsibilities.

To help supervisors in different areas of the hospitality industry better apply the concepts taught in the series, updated editions of Supervisory Skill Builders are available in four distinct versions:
  • Supervisory Skill Builders for the Lodging Industry
  • Supervisory Skill Builders for Restaurant and Foodservice Operations
  • Supervisory Skill Builders for Private Clubs
  • Supervisory Skill Builders for the Gaming Industry
The third edition of this popular workbook series features many content updates as well as fresh graphics. Based on recommendations from industry experts, the program contains new leadership models that illustrate behaviors supervisors can use to meet and exceed guest and employee expectations. There is an increased emphasis on diversity and the benefits diversity brings to a supervisors work team.  Supervisors will also learn how to apply current technologies to better manage their time, their team, and their propertys bottom line.

The workbooks feature new scenarios that illustrate how supervisors can positively influence employee job performance by using contemporary skills, methods, and tools in the hospitality industry setting. In each series, the scenarios are customized to situations that supervisors might face at a hotel property, restaurant, private club, or gaming establishment. In addition, the modules include expanded activities and exercises for supervisors to practice their newly-learned skills.

Topics in the nine-workbook series are:

  • You as a Supervisor
  • Conducting Orientation and Training
  • Leadership
  • Handling Problems and Conflict
  • Motivation and Team Building
  • Staffing and Scheduling
  • Improving Employee Performance
  • Effective Communication
  • Time Management
While the workbooks are ideal for self-study, Leaders Guides are also available for each Supervisory Skill Builders program.  These guides include additional handouts and activities, employee tracking materials, and step-by-step instructions for leading group training sessions. New to this edition of the Leaders Guides is a PowerPoint CD with key content information and talking points for instructor-led discussions.

The complete set of nine Supervisory Skill Builders workbooks in any of the four hospitality industry specialty areas is available for $139.95 ($109.95 for AH&LA members).  The accompanying Leaders Guides (set of nine) are available for $224.95 ($179.95 for AH&LA members).  Supplemental videosalso available on DVDare $299.95 ($239.95 for AH&LA members) for the nine-title set.  To order, visit www.ei-ahla.org or call 800-752-4567 or 517-372-8800.
