Developer Robert Spottswood Opens 222 room Beachside Resort & Conference Center
in Key West, Florida; Restaurants Created by Chef Norman Van Aken

Slated to open October 2007, Beachside Resort & Conference Center, conceived to be a five star luxury destination with top of the line services and amenities, a sophisticated urban feel and a laid back vibe, is the latest venture of seasoned Key West real estate and hotel veteran Robert Spottswood, president of Spottswood Hotels.

The new four-story, 222-room resort offers a conference and meeting center, a full spectrum of banquet facilities and services, a private beach and heated pool, 93 standard king rooms and 129 one, two and three bedroom suites clustered around seven breathtaking acres of verdant waterfront property in Key West, Florida.

Intended to endure the test of time by architect Thomas E. Pope, the propertys design encompasses hurricane resistant building materials, from the walls and windows to the covered parking facilities. Demanding top-notch quality for his guests, Spottswood chose Miami-based interior designer Jeffrey Howard of Howard Design Group to create the stunning decor which encompasses solid mahogany furniture upholstered in a palate of earth tones with sea blue accents, and floors swathed in gleaming marble and stone.

To further enhance the property, Spottswood tapped revered chef, Norman Van Aken the founding father of New World Cuisine, who has applied his culinary genius to creating a one-of-a-kind food and beverage program for savvy travelers. An elegant two story lobby featuring a chic bar, two adjoining restaurants, Tavern N Town, serving casual and formal fare, and a poolside beach bar and grill, are sure to become hot destinations on their own for both locals and visitors alike.

Overlooking the sparkling waters of the Gulf of Mexico, Beachside Resort & Conference Center is nestled at the tranquil entrance of the island of Key West, a few miles away from the legendary bar, cafe and restaurant scene on Duval Street.  Just a three hour drive from Miami, Beachside offers covered parking and 24 hour valet service. A local airport is situated minutes from its door and the property has a private helicopter landing pad.

Accommodations & Amenities

At Beachside style and comfort is key. The resort features one, two and three bedroom suites, as well as luxurious standard king rooms, with plush beds, covered in fine Frete linens, and upholstered seating swathed in soft earth tones with sea blue accents. Accommodations feature marble Jacuzzi tubs, bathroom amenities by LOccitaine, 26?, 32? and 42? LCD flat panel televisions with a DVD library and state of the art sound systems. Guests will enjoy the latest in kitchen appliances, including flat top four burner stoves, granite counter tops, fine china, top of the line flatware, pots, pans and cooking utensils. Spiral staircases lead to the private beach and pool area or to a private widows walk sun deck. Covered parking is available underneath accommodations and in the main building. Resonating with the Key West late night vibe, the front desk, concierge and room service are available 24-hours a day.  A separate mail room is located in the lobby and delivers directly to guests.

The heart of the property boasts a heated pool surrounded by comfortable lounging chairs, tables and umbrellas, overlooking the propertys private white sandy beach and the turquoise waters of The Gulf of Mexico.  Cabanas are available for private poolside dinning, massages and/or lounging, while the poolside Blue Bar serves up refreshing tropical drinks and casual fare, including tempting pizzas and paninis from a wood burning oven.  A fitness center is fully equipped with the latest equipment. A 20-slip private boat dock will be available next year.

The 6,000 square foot conference and special events space encompasses an array of business, conference, meeting, party and banquet facilities, unparalleled on the island.  The business center boasts its own kitchen and Van Aken food service.  The Beachside ballroom can accommodate up to 400 guests for a seated dinner or can be turned into five smaller rooms, all with top-notch audio visual and sound systems, and sound insulation.

Back-up generators are included in the main lobby, conference center and restaurants. Additional amenities include satellite check-in, a fully equipped business center, reserved covered parking, valet service, a private helicopter landing pad and free WIFI throughout the property.

Design & Decor

Crafted by Miami based designer Jeffrey Howard of Howard Design Group, Beachside Resort & Conference Centers décor deftly blends luxury and class with the casual, laid-back, tropical attitude of the Florida Keys.  Quaint cobblestone streets canopied by gumbo-limbo trees lead into the luxurious main lobby where serene earth tones cool the senses. Two-toned marble flooring meets taupe walls with dramatic dark chocolate crown molding, while eclectic mahogany furnishings, clad in sand colored fabrics and dark leathers, adorn the rooms.  To the right, sits Tavern N Town divided from the lobby by sculpted wrought iron doors; through them appears Tavern with its plush lounge area and central bar, seating 20.  Traditional meets contemporary in the units with upholstered mahogany furnishings, marble floors and state of the art technology.  The poolside bar and grill, Blue Bar, features a sparkling blue mosaic mural of a large aloe plant.  Comfortable patio furniture with cool fabrics and tented pavilions facing the Gulf of Mexico and Beachsides private beach, make for the ultimate Key West experience.

Dining

Taking see-and-be-seen dining to a whole new level, Tavern N Town, a spectacular two-story space housing a gleaming open Theater Kitchen that spans the south end of the lobby area, glistens with marble flooring, pale beige marble textured walls, and earth toned mosaics.  Created to be what Norman Van Aken, the James Beard Award winning chef and author, calls a hyphenated restaurant, Tavern N Town will take on two identities. Just off the lobby, Tavern will offer tapas and small plates in a relaxed and comfortable laid-back atmosphere, while the adjacent Town will cater to guests seeking a culinary adventure in world class fine dining. A private 25-seat dining and wine tasting area is available for chefs tastings and exclusive events. The more casual Tavern features a dark mahogany bar accommodating 20 and handsome seating areas.  Guests can opt to lounge there or sit at the bar and watch the dramatic action of the Tavern dining room and the bustling kitchen.
