Key West, Fla. – October 18, 2007 – Beachside Resort & Conference Center is the ultimate upscale island destination for families, leisure travelers and special events. Meet the team that is setting this new standard in accommodations and service in the Florida Keys.
With a name synonymous with Key West hotels and society for more than 150 years, Robert A. Spottswood, president of Spottswood Companies, Inc. serves as developer and team leader of this ground-breaking project. “Beachside is the culmination of the company’s vision of luxury in every aspect,” said Spottswood. “This was our opportunity to take all of our experience in hospitality and channel it into something really special for upscale Key West clientele.” Spottswood Companies Inc. currently owns seven other properties throughout the Keys including Coconut Beach Resort, Radisson Key West and the private island of Coupon Key.
Bringing more than 20 years of experience in the hotel industry, General Manager George Galvan will oversee the first rate experience Beachside Resort & Conference Center offers its clientele. Galvan explains, “Our guests will have the finest of everything at Beachside: service, accommodations, amenities and cuisine. The resort embodies the culture of Key West with an ambiance and high level of class, which we feel will make it a favorite with locals and visitors alike.” Galvan is proudly active in the Key West community, belonging to groups such as Rotary Club, the city’s Historical Architectural Review and Chamber of Commerce.
Douglas Wright, vice president of hotel operations for Spottswood Companies Inc. is a certified hotel administrator with an accomplished history in food and beverage and hotel management. “Overseeing a project like Beachside Resort & Conference Center has been an opportunity to impact the entire luxury resort market of southern Florida,” said Wright. “Beachside will elevate the standard of resorts in Key West for guests who are accustomed to the best of everything in locales all over the world.”

Based in the Keys since 2002, Boeckman brings first hand knowledge of the island tourism market to Beachside. “Key West is a world renowned destination and the upscale clientele we will host at Beachside is truly a savvy international traveler. We will strive to exceed the expectations of each of our cultured and valued guests.”

We want to make sure our visitors feel pampered and appreciated throughout their stay.”
Originally hailing from Illinois, author and award-winning Chef Norman Van Aken has had a lifelong love affair with Florida’s tropical environment and abundant produce. His esteemed cuisine reflects a personal passion for “fusion cooking” – a term he coined in 1989. With cultural influences from South Florida, the Americas and the Caribbean, Van Aken’s previous restaurant ventures have been acclaimed as “Best Restaurant in Miami” by The New York Times and one of “America’s Top Tables” by Gourmet magazine for four consecutive years. As a recipient of the “James Beard Foundation’s Best Chef in the Southeast,” Chef Van Aken is the only Floridian inducted into the prestigious “James Beard list of Who’s Who.”
Beachside Resort & Conference Center’s restaurants, “Tavern N Town” mark Chef Van Aken’s full circle return to Key West and the flavors that first inspired his cuisine. Opening October 22, 2007, “Tavern” will feature a full a la carte menu as well as an in-house pastry chef, tapas-style fare, sushi and charcuterie. “Town” will debut December 1, 2007 and offer elegant fine dining with Chef Van Aken’s tasting menus.
