Vail Cascade Resort & Spa Announces $30 Million Renovation
.
Resort Master Plan to Reposition Creekside Property
Vail, Colo. July 23, 2007 Gregg Pate, managing director for the Vail Cascade Resort & Spa, today announced the property will undergo a $30 million transformation over the next 18 months to enhance the leisure guest experience and position the resort as the preeminent meeting facility in the Vail Valley. Many of the improvements at the Vail Cascade are designed to take advantage of the resorts private location along one of the Vail Valleys most distinguishing characteristics Gore Creek.

While many properties in the Vail Valley have decreased their guest room inventory in favor of leisure, residential ownership options, the Vail Cascade continues to be committed to group and leisure guests, offering the best facilities and most distinct choices for both customers, said Pate. And, our creekside location is unlike any other resort in the Vail Valley. Many of the upgrades will infuse more indoor-outdoor elements into the guest experience so they can enjoy our authentic mountain location any time of year.

The Vail Cascade, managed by Destination Hotels & Resorts, is one of the original AAA Four Diamond properties in the Vail Valley. Celebrating its 25th Anniversary in December, the Vail Cascade will be significantly updated with physical and experiential improvements to capitalize on its distinctive setting. Located just a mile west of Lionshead Village, the Vail Cascade offers an authentic mountain experience while being close to the villages for additional dining, shopping and entertainment options.

Creekside Positioning

With Gore Creek as the inspiration, many enhancements will be made that incorporate indoor amenities with outdoor environments and improvements that encourage guests to take advantage of the resorts creekside location. Chaps restaurant, Colorados only AAA Four-Diamond rated steakhouse, is one of the many guest amenities that will be modified to capture the spirit of its Gore Creek setting. A new enclosed seating area will expand onto the existing Chaps deck to provide a versatile space for larger parties and groups.

Vail Cascades popular Fireside Bar will be renovated with new décor and doors will be added from the lounge to provide access to two mountainside decks for year-round enjoyment. A new staircase will allow guests to easily access the new deck and pool located outside.

The Vail Cascades pool and deck will be completely remodeled to provide a more contemporary setting that incorporates the pool with its natural surroundings. The pool will be redesigned to be a year-round focal point of the resort with outdoor fire pits, an infinity pool and seating areas where guests can enjoy the creekside setting. The deck will be expanded and renovated to provide a more modern space for weddings and corporate functions. A new hot tub with a waterfall also will be part of the pool and deck enhancements.

Guests also will be able to choose from more diversified dining options when a new coffee bar and market opens to provide quick, grab and go dining options. Après ski snacks and wine will be available for purchase as well as picnic baskets in the summertime and Starbucks coffee will be sold throughout the day. In the evening, the market will turn into an internet café offering younger guests a location to call their own.

Guest Room Enhancements

Until a few years ago, air conditioning was uncommon at mountain resorts. Today this amenity is appreciated and expected by guests in the area. All rooms at the Vail Cascade will be retrofitted with air conditioning to provide guests with the option of listening to the Gore Creek at night out their window or enjoying the comfort and convenience of air conditioning.

The contemporary mountain décor found in each guest room will be enhanced with new electronics including 42-inch flat screen televisions and cordless telephones. The bathrooms also will receive an update including new fixtures and lighting to provide a more modern residential look.

New Executive Conference Area

Located across from the Vail Cascades Conference Center, a new 4,000-square-foot executive conference area will be added for small, private, upscale retreats and board meetings. With the addition of the executive facility, the Vail Cascade will offer nearly 40,000 square feet of meeting options providing planners with the most extensive selection of versatile space in the Vail Valley. The new executive conference area will include five meeting rooms plus an executive boardroom with rooms offering either creekside or courtyard views. The boardroom will offer state-of-the-art electronics with one-touch controls at the boardroom table for closing and opening the shades, changing the lighting in the room, adjusting audio visual presentations and much more.

While many of our local competitors are scaling back on their group and meeting offerings, we want to elevate the Vail Cascades profile for planners, said Matthew Martinucci, regional director of sales and marketing for the Vail Cascade Resort & Spa. We have listened to our groups and understand what they need from a physical product and service standard. When this renovation it complete, it will be evident that weve listened to our guests and designed new spaces and services especially for them.

In addition to the executive conference facility, the Vail Cascade is expanding its Creekside meeting room to better capture the spirit of its Gore Creek setting. An additional 600 square feet will be added to the space which will be upgraded to become a multi-purpose room that opens onto the newly renovated pool deck. The Creekside room will be upgraded to accommodate high-end meetings, receptions, events and private dining.

The physical enhancements at Vail Cascade also translate into new, distinctive programs and meeting services for meeting planners. The sales and operations teams have partnered with the conference concierge on property to develop new programs, services, menus and offerings to compliment the upgraded and newly created facilities.

18-Month Plan

The renovations at the Vail Cascade will be implemented in two phases over the next 18 months to minimize impact to the leisure guest and group experience. The first phase of the renovation begins summer 2007 and concludes in December prior to the holiday season. Additions and enhancements in phase one include the new coffee bar and market, executive conference facility, enhancements to existing meeting space, fitness center locker rooms, as well as the guest room upgrades.

Phase two of the renovations will begin the spring of 2008 with the air conditioning upgrades, enhancements to Chaps deck, the Fireside Bar, pool and deck renovations, as well as the expansion of the Creekside meeting room.
