Educational Institute Introduces Four New
Professional Certification Designations

ORLANDO, Fla., July 2007The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute has introduced four new professional certification designations. The new certifications provide professional development opportunities for hospitality employees at the managerial level, bridging the gap between EIs supervisory level certifications and department head level certifications.

The new designations are:
Certified Restaurant Manager (CRM): This program certifies the restaurant or food service manager who has the knowledge and skills that it takes to provide quality food and beverage services that exceed guest expectations, while contributing to the profitability of the food service operation.

Certified Housekeeping Manager (CHM): This certification validates the housekeeping managers ability to lead the housekeeping staff in delivering the highest quality of cleaning and care of guest rooms and common areas. It verifies the ability to wisely manage property resources, including inventory control, personnel scheduling, and facility maintenance.

Certified Maintenance Manager (CMM): This program certifies the property maintenance or facilities maintenance manager who has demonstrated proficiency in maintaining facility equipment, building repair, and preventive maintenance programs, as well as supervising and managing the personnel required to maintain the total facility.

Certified Front Desk Manager (CFDM): This certification bridges the gap between the front desk supervisor and the front office or rooms division executive. It certifies those who have proven their skills and knowledge in providing quality guest services and managing the multiple responsibilities of the front desk.
Qualifications for any of these managerial-level certifications include current employment in a qualifying position with at least six months of full-time experience and successful completion of a written examination.  The application fee for any of these certifications is $275.00 for AH&LA members and $350.00 for nonmembers.

Professional certification from the Educational Institute is the hallmark of excellence in the lodging industry. EI certifies all levels of hospitality employee, from line level and supervisory through managers, department heads, and executives.
