Manchester Grand Resorts Prepares to Open the 249 room
Grand Del Mar in Del Mar, California

Set to Open October 6, 2007
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (August 24, 2007) – Setting an unprecedented new standard for luxury in San Diego, The Grand Del Mar – a much-anticipated new resort owned and operated by Manchester Grand Resorts – is nearing completion, with the opening date set for October 6, 2007.
According to Thomas Voss, president of Manchester Grand Resorts, construction on this lavishly appointed 249-room resort – situated on a pristine coastal canyon preserve near the beachfront village of Del Mar – is progressing at a rapid pace. “Construction has proceeded as planned and we are well on-track for our Fall opening,” he said.
Inspired by the opulent – and pioneering – design style of 1920’s architectural visionary Addison Mizner, The Grand Del Mar is destined to emerge as one of the region’s top luxury resorts, capturing the elegance and comfort of an old-world Mediterranean estate amid a tranquil Southern California setting.
“Guests will enjoy a personalized, memory-filled experience,” Voss said, with a spectacular natural backdrop and an abundance of recreational activities in tandem with exacting service and painstaking attention to detail.
Ideally located on the serene Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve – a 4,100-acre, boulder-studded sanctuary with the area’s only natural waterfall – The Grand Del Mar has been meticulously designed with the finest materials to harmonize with the surrounding habitat, and is situated on 380 lush acres amid the manicured fairways of The Grand Golf Club.
Among the many hallmarks of a visit to The Grand Del Mar:
Dramatic architecture. The Grand Del Mar will be the only Addison Mizner-inspired resort on the West Coast. Featuring an exotic amalgam of Spanish, Portuguese, Moroccan, Provincial and Venetian design elements, the resort pays homage to Mizner, whose time-honored approach defined the well-heeled resort communities of Boca Raton and Palm Beach. This architectural icon’s sophisticated yet fanciful style is evident throughout the resort – replete with rich, colorful hues; graceful arched doorways; classic rotundas; vibrant tile; rustic wood-beamed ceilings; ornate stone columns, garden fountains, generous patios and wrought iron accents.
Recreational Activities Extraordinaire. An onsite naturalist will lead a variety of activities throughout the 37 miles of hiking, biking and horseback riding trails of Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve, including nature walks, canyon expeditions and mountain bike tours. Four sparkling swimming pools of varying sizes – including an adults-only spa pool, a children’s pool and one for toddlers; two outdoor tennis courts; San Diego’s only Tom Fazio-designed golf course; a state-of-the-art fitness facility, plus adventure-themed kids and teen programs round up the offerings.
The Grand Golf Club. The rolling greens of the stunning Tom Fazio-designed golf course take center stage here. San Diego’s only Fazio-designed course, The Grand Golf Club is one of the region’s most challenging 18-hole courses, with a par-72 that accommodates all levels of play, melding extreme playability with the area’s breathtaking natural beauty. The newly renovated 50,000-square-foot golf Clubhouse opened in September 2006 and encompasses the Pro Shop and locker area, as well as the resort’s signature restaurant, Addison, and The Clubhouse Grill.
249 Posh Rooms and Suites. The resort’s rich Mediterranean style is imbued throughout the beautifully appointed guest rooms. Offering commanding golf course, canyon preserve or pool front views, all feature a rich deep blue, pale yellow and gold color palette enhanced by fine distressed wood furnishings with rich brocade upholstery, detailed crown moldings and millwork, original fine art and accessories and plush Italian bedding and linens – all complemented by the very finest amenities.
A Spectacular Spa. The Renaissance-inspired spa will feature custom services incorporating ingredients from the area, including water, mud, clay, stones, herbs and essential oils. The 21,000-square-foot spa houses 11 amply sized treatment rooms; a fitness center; salon and boutique. An adjacent movement studio is available for complimentary fitness classes.
Dining for all Appetites. With Addison, the signature, stand-alone fine dining restaurant, as its culinary centerpiece, the resort will feature a total of six dining venues. The Clubhouse Grill is a relaxed outdoor/indoor venue; Amaya, the all-day restaurant within the hotel, will offer breakfast, lunch and dinner service; a poolside venue will feature lighter fare; and a gourmet shop will offer coffees, pastries and sandwiches to go. The elegant Lobby Lounge will offer an array of cocktails and aperitifs, as well as afternoon tea.
Meeting Facilities. Designed to accommodate intimate parties, weddings of all sizes or larger corporate meetings, the resort’s event space encompasses 20,000 square feet, with highlights including a 10,000-square-foot ballroom (divisible by six); an ornate chapel for weddings and other upscale events; an expansive outdoor lawn; and four wine rooms for more intimate affairs.
