Frenchman Philippe Charraudeau Named General Manager
|Hong Kong, April 20, 2007 - The Place Hotel & Spa, Shanghai’s only
hotel reserved exclusively for the use of in-house guests, will be the
latest addition to the city’s luxury boutique hotel scene when it opens
early next year. It will be an integral part of the Park Place development
which is set to be a new business landmark on Nanjing Lu West.
The hotel intends to carve out its own niche in the luxury lodging sector. The “guests only” policy will ensure that well-heeled travellers can expect to enjoy complete exclusivity and utter privacy. The hotel will offer a sense of sanctuary married with the highest standard of service, facilities and accommodation, and as a result, guests can expect to pay probably the highest room rate in Shanghai.
The Place Hotel & Spa is the only hotel in Shanghai to be situated in the coveted location of Jing’an Park, a haven of comfort and tranquillity among the city’s urban sprawl. Despite its tranquil environment, it is able to boast outstanding transport links with two of Shanghai’s modern metro lines intersecting on the doorstep.
When it comes to settling the biil, guests will pay a fixed rate. A policy that will appeal to today’s no nonsense business clientele as no additional fees will appear on the bill at checkout. Every room will enjoy 24-hour butler service, advanced technology, full office facilities, WIFI Broadband throughout the hotel, in-room breakfast and lounge facilities.
General Manager, Philippe Charraudeau is in charge of a top-flight management team and is responsible for implementing what is a revolutionary approach to hospitality. Professional and highly personable, the Frenchman relishes a challenge of providing home-from-home accommodation that will exceed expectation, he says: “The Place will not have good service, it will have great service.”
Charraudeau has sterling credentials; his 30-year career has encompassed The Savoy London, The Mandarin, The Oriental, The Oberoi, The Kempinski and responsibility for opening the iconic Burj Al Arab in Dubai. He also holds a National Order of Merit Medal, awarded by the French President.
Lead architect Kume Sekkei was selected for its environmentally responsible approach. The ‘green’ specifications of The Place Hotel & Spa include a triple-glazed exterior that utilises the latest low-e glass to reduce noise, heat and ultra-violet intrusion. Solar panels will gather energy from the southern façade with internal temperatures closely monitored and constantly adjusted to minimise energy consumption. All are features of the latest practices in ‘passive’ environmental architecture.
Jaya and Associates and the Layan Design Group have been commissioned to develop a design that’s in accord with the park surroundings. The resulting design is an elegant, understated space in contemporary Chinese style that combines natural tones and textures in harmonious order.
Developed by Shanghai Cross Ocean Property Development, The Place Hotel & Spa is an integral component of the multi-use Park Place development that promises to become a new business landmark on Nanjing Lu West. Park Place is a beacon for the opulent lifestyle, it includes a Grade A office tower and a luxury retail complex, set at the hub of unrivalled transport connections. Nanjing Lu West is one of the city’s most famous thoroughfares and the hotel is also adjacent to the Central YanAn elevated highway, the most direct and efficient route to the airport.
A dramatic 32-metre Long Bar will be the focus of activity at the hotel. It is intended to function as a contact point and multi-tasking staff will be equally happy to check-in guests, pour them a glass of wine or answer general queries. The in-house restaurant will focus on cooking up international fare and local Chinese specialities.
An atmosphere of quiet relaxation will be enhanced by the spa situated adjacent to the indoor swimming pool. It will complement the hotel with a design that makes the most of the surrounding parkland with beauty treatments, soothing massages and revitalising baths.
Rooms are generous in size and height. Even the standard room size is 45sqm and every room has three-metre-high ceilings. The rooms will be carefully furnished in materials of the finest quality and will have a number of carefully considered amenities like personal espresso machines, a printer and deep baths with views over the park and the city.
