In receiving the prestigious honor, Wolman was cited for his substantial contribution to the advancement of travel and tourism in Connecticut and his role in communicating the economic, cultural and social importance of the travel industry. Responding to the award Wolman said: It is an honor to be recognized by the Connecticut Lodging Association. I accept this award on behalf of my partners and associates of Waterford Group. Our accomplishments are the result of a team effort --- and there are many individuals that work hard each day, said Wolman. This award is for all of you, Wolman commented to the more than 60 Waterford associates in attendance at the dinner.

Len Wolman was born and raised on a farm in a region of South Africa that later became a resort called The Rocks. After military service in the South African Airforce, he attended the Witwatersand Hotel School in Johannesburg where several years later, in 1993, he was honored for his accomplishments with the schools Special Achievement Award, given to only 11 other people in 25 years. Wolmans early career included running a family resort in South Africa and management positions with a large hotel company in that country. In the United States, he experienced every aspect of hotel management while holding executive positions with such major companies as Westin, Hyatt, Four Seasons and Holiday Inn before joining Waterford Hotel Group in 1986.
