SAN DIEGO, Oct. 17, 2006 - Downtown San Diego's landmark, THE US GRANT, re-opens today to a selected list of dignitaries in time to celebrate it's 96th anniversary. Following a meticulous 20-month, $52 million renovation and restoration, it is the newest member of The Luxury Collection® from Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc..

Located in the heart of the city, this lavishly restored 11-story Beaux Arts beauty was re-designed with a historically chic scheme; rooms and public spaces have an opulent residential feel and are filled with newly commissioned works of art.

THE US GRANT was built in 1910 by Ulysses S. Grant Jr. to honor his Civil War hero father. The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation purchased the landmark in 2003. Expansive elevator foyers are enhanced by original bronze sculptures and the hotel's stunning lobby features a $250,000 Thai silk carpet with a leitmotif of the yellow evening primrose, the tribal flower of Sycuan.
