Renovation of San Antonio's Historic 97 Year Old
Sheraton Gunter Hotel
San Antonio, TX - September 28, 2006 - On October 4, 2006 a special celebration marking the 97th chapter in the ongoing saga of San Antonio’s historic Gunter Hotel and the unveiling of its $7 million renovation will take place from 5 PM – 8 PM at the Sheraton Gunter Hotel, 205 E. Houston Street.
“Great efforts have been taken to protect this prominent San Antonio landmark while updating its ambiance to offer today’s traveler the very latest in comfort, design and technology. We’ve kept the hospitality of 1909 and combined it with the modern amenities of today,” says Debbie Gonzalez, General Manager for the Sheraton Gunter Hotel. With each era, the Sheraton Gunter Hotel’s décor has graciously reflected the mood of the country, moving from Art Nouveau to Deco to the understated designs of the War Era and the more contemporary interiors of the ‘60’s and 70’s.
The most recent season of change is a result of Sheraton Hotel & Resorts’ North American refurbishing program, in which the Sheraton Corporate design team has created various sophisticated design concepts that establish a common thread amongst all of its properties nationwide.
“The transformation meets the needs of today’s traveler who wants a hotel room that feels more like a private home,” states Gonzalez. “We’ve taken the design to a whole new level to ensure that the rooms reflect our clientele’s needs and desires.”
Over the past year, the Sheraton design team has created a look and feel that speaks to the traveler, creating an appearance that is classic, timeless and distinct. “The new ambiance will turn the Sheraton Gunter into a destination, not just a place to stay,” says Gonzalez.
Various activities are planned and prizes will be offered during the celebration. Following a brief introduction from Starwood Corporation and American Property representatives, guests will be invited to tour the newly renovated rooms. Each guest will be given a key card, with select keys unlocking doors on the hotel’s 12th floor to unveil luxurious prizes, including the famed Sheraton Sweet Sleeper Bed complete with linens. Additional rooms, including the Presidential and Governor’s Suite, will be open for viewing, showcasing the Sheraton’s new theme: warm, comforting and connected.
