The Americas
Larry Shupnick has been named Senior Vice President, Development and Acquisitions at Interstate Hotels and Resorts. A well-known veteran of large-scale acquisitions, he previously served as Senior Vice President, Development and Acquisitions, for MeriStar. Shupnick first joined Interstate in 1990, when he merged his company, Laral Hotels, with CapStar, now part of Interstate. At CapStar, Shupnick attempted to develop a national chain of premium restaurants with Chef Michel Richard.  
Sunstone Hotel Investors has promoted William Wagner to Senior Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer. He joined Sunstone in July 2004 as Vice President of Accounting and was previously the Vice President of Accounting for the Trizetto Group and spent eight years as an auditor with Ernst & Young. 

John Vanderslice has joined Miraval, Life in Balance as Chief Executive Officer. He was most recently the President of Club Med's Americas region. At ClubMed, Vanderslice was reporting to Philippe Bourguignon, now the Vice Chairman of Revolution Resorts, of which Miraval is a part.

David Rodriguez has been appointed Executive Vice President, Human Resources for Marriott International succeeding Brendan Keegan who is retiring from the company. Since 2003, Rodriguez held the position of Executive Vice President - Lodging Human Resources after joining the company as Senior Vice President, Staffing & Development in 1998. 

Auberge Resorts has promoted Severino Gomez to the position of Regional Vice President for new development outside the United States. He will concurrently continue to serve as General Manager at Esperanza. Prior to joining Auberge Resorts, Gomez served as General Manager of the Paradise Village Golf, Marina and Spa in Puerto Vallarta.

Chris Van der Baars has been promoted by Interstate Hotels & Resorts to Vice President, Development for the company's Condo-Hotels division. He joined Interstate in 2000 as Manager of the Doubletree Westshore in Tampa and was then promoted to General Manager of the South Seas Resort in Captiva, Florida. Van Der Baars also briefly ran his own Executive Search Firm.

Cornell graduate Michael Rawson has been named General Manager of the Hotel Sorrento in Seattle as well as Chief Operating Officer of the Sequoia Syndicate, a Seattle investment and asset management company. Since 1998, he had been with Hotels AB as Senior Vice President of Operations.

Bryan Austin has been appointed President of Resort Operations for the Wingfield Nevada Group. He toiled six years with Ritz-Carlton, most recently as an Executive Assistant in charge of Food and Beverage at the Ritz-Carlton Dearborn, after serving as Acting General Manager at the Ritz-Carlton Cleveland and Executive Assistant Manager at the Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel. Austin also spent ten years with Four Seasons Resorts in Hawaii, Los Angeles and Philadelphia.

Jens Grafe has been appointed Vice President and General Manager of the Trump International Sonesta Beach Resort. From 1994 to 2003 he was the General Manager of Turnberry Isle and previously the President of Rafael Hotels. 

Boutique hotelier Tim Thuell will be joining The Chanler in Newport, as General Manager early August. Currently the General Manager of Meadowood, Thuell also spent seven years at the helm of the exclusive Point at Saranac Lake, following stints in some of Bermuda and the Caribbean's top small resorts. At the Chanler, he takes over from Jeff David, now the Resort Manager at the Chatham Bars Inn on Cape Cod.

Native Barbadian Andrew Zephirin was named General Manager of the Crane Resort and Residences, in St. Philip. He previously spent seven years with Ritz-Carlton, most recently as General Manager of the Ritz-Carlton Marina Del Rey.
Taking over for Andrew Zephirin at the Ritz-Carlton Marina Del Rey is Robert Thomas, who transfers form the almost-adjacent Marriott Marina Del Rey. 

Ronan Hénaff will be the opening General Manager at New York's Cipriani Club Residences. He was most recently the Director of Food and Beverage at the Carlyle. He also was the opening Restaurant General Manager for Atelier at the Ritz-Carlton Central Park South.

Jim Samuels has been appointed General Manager at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott, taking over for Jeroen Gerrese who had run the hotel since 2001. Samuels was most recently the Vice President of Operations for Dallas-based Headington Hotels. He also toiled at the Shore Club in Miami and the Mansion on Turtle Creek as Hotel Manager.

Jeroen Gerrese has become a partner with Regent Hospitality Services in Stockton. He had been with Interstate Hotels and Resorts since 1998 at the Moscow Marriott Royal Hotel and, most recently, as General Manager of the Laguna Cliffs Marriott.

Michael Miner has been named General Manager at the Westin Bonaventure replacing Brian Fitzgerald who left to become the General Manager of the Royal Sonesta Boston. Miner was most recently with the Kor Group, where he served as Area General Manager for the Sheraton Gateway in Los Angeles and the Sheraton Delfina in Santa Monica. 

Jerry Gleason has been appointed Managing Director of the West Baden Springs Hotel in Indiana slated for reopening of June 2007. Most recently, Gleason was an Area Vice President of Operations for Hilton Hotels and was previously a Regional Vice President for Promus and Doubletree.  

Kanwaljeet 'Rikki' Boparai has been named General Manager of the Bedford Springs Resort in Pennsylvania. He was most recently the Director of Operations at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado. 

James Edward Douglas has been named General Manager of the Pan Pacific Whistler Mountainside and the Pan Pacific Whistler Village Centre replacing Tim Morrison who will now be working for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Douglas was most recently the General Manager of the Coast Inn of the North in Northern British Columbia.  

Richard Jardin has joined L'Auberge Carmel as General Manager. He was most recently the General Manager at the Inn at Dos Brisas in Texas. Jardin also served as the Food and Beverage Manager at Twin Farms and at the Willcox.  

Brooks Bradbury has been named General Manager at Riverbend in Kohler, Wisconsin. For the past three years he has been at the Quinnipiack Club in Connecticut.  
  
Rodolfo Roth has joined Mexico City's Hotel Marquis Reforma as General Manager. He was previously the General Manager at the Hotel Melia and the Camino Real.

At Miami's Setai, Hansjoerg Meier takes over from MS Puri as General Manager. Puri continues as Vice President for GHM Hotels. As for Meier, he transfers from the Legian Bali, where he was the General Manager. He originally joined GHM at the Datai in Langkawi.

Ben Trodd is transferring to the Four Seasons Los Angeles as Hotel Manager from the same position at the Four Seasons Palo Alto. He was previously at the Four Seasons Hampshire and the Four Seasons Dublin in various positions. He replaces Rainer Stampfer who leaves to be the opening General Manager at the Four Seasons Koh Samui in Thailand, slated for opening January 2007.

Karim Chaia has been appointed Food and Beverage Director at Discovery at Marigot Bay in St. Lucia, scheduled to open in September. He was previously at the Royal Monceau in Paris and had previously done some openings for Alain Ducasse's SPOON at the Byblos in Courchevel and in Switzerland. 

Philippe Torelli has been appointed Rooms Division Manager at Discovery at Marigot Bay. He was previously a Front Office Manager at Le Méridien Bora Bora and worked as an Assistant Manager at the Hotel Meurice and as Front Desk Manager at the Hotel Prince de Galles in Paris.

Barbara Van der Vliet is now the Club Services Manager at the Bella Sera Tuscan Villas and Piazza in British Columbia. She was most recently with the Picerne Group in San Juan Capistrano and previously worked for Vulcan, Inc. overseeing Paul Allen's interests as Director of Estate and Yacht Services. 

David Rosenberg has been appointed the Director of Operations for the Carmel Valley Ranch Resort and Spa. He was previously the Rooms Executive at the Park Hyatt San Francisco.

Jacob Ascher, currently Director of Operations at the British Colonial Hilton, will take over as General Manager, Hilton Tobago Golf & Spa Resort. He was previously in Israel as Director of Operations at the Hilton Tel Aviv.

Cesar Biggeri has been named Director of Sales - Western Region, for Jumeirah based in Los Angeles. For the past three years, he was the Corporate Sales Manager at the Four Seasons Los Angeles and previously worked as Sales Manager at the Sofitel Los Angeles.

William Becker returns to the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas as Vice President Food and Beverage. He was previously the Director of Culinary Operations at the hotel before moving into the position of Area Director of Culinary Operations overseeing the Rio, Bally's and Paris Las Vegas.

Marcia Abel has been named Director of Human Resources for the Northland Inn in Minnesota. She was most recently the Director of Operational Support for the Doubletree Guest Suites of Minneapolis and previously served for six years at the property as the Director of Human Resources. 

Donna Miklich has been appointed Director of Human Resources at the Glen Cove Mansion Hotel and Conference Center, located on Long Island. She was most recently the Assistant Director of Human Resources at the Essex House and had worked eight years for Starwood.

Dorian Rommel has joined the St. Regis Resort Monarch Beach as the Director of Food and Beverage. He was most recently in London at the Dorchester as Deputy Food and Beverage Manager. Previously, he oversaw the restaurants at the Pierre in New York and the Waldorf=Astoria.

Thomas Barretta is now at the Glen Cove Mansion Hotel and Conference Center as Director of Food and Beverage. He was most recently in the same position at Oheka Castle Hotel and Estate and was previously overseeing food and beverage at the Garden City Hotel.

Jennifer Wachter has relocated to San Francisco as the Director of Special Events and Catering for Guckenheimer, handling all Special Events for such clients as LucasFilms at Skywalker Ranch. She previously supervised catering at the Los Angeles Convention Center and the Pacific Design Center.

Anthony Keene is the Executive Chef at Carmel Valley Ranch, rejoining General Manager Joe Violi with whom he worked at the Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel many years ago. Keene was most recently overseeing the kitchens at Casa Marina in Key West and was previously the Executive Chef at Little Palm Island, and the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa.

Frank Ziegler has been named Executive Sous Chef at the Peninsula Chicago. He was most recently at the Delano in Miami as the Senior Sous Chef. He had been a Main Kitchen Chef at the Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne and the Banquet Chef at the Mandarin Oriental Miami.

Anthony Cole has joined the Chatham Bars Inn on Cape Cod as Executive Chef. He had been with the Ritz-Carlton since 1994, most recently as the Executive Chef at the Ritz-Carlton St. Louis. 

Michael Goodman has joined the Cuisinart Resort in Anguilla as Executive Chef taking over from Daniel Orr who left the company and returned to New York. Goodman was most recently at the Napa Restaurant at the Five-Star Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai and previously put in two years as the Executive Chef of Amandari in Bali.

Jasper Schneider is now the Chef des Cuisines at the Chatham Bars Inn. He was most recently the Executive Chef at the Palms in Turks and Caicos following six years at La Quinta Resort and Club.

Didier Montarou has transferred as Executive Chef from the InterContinetal Cleveland to the soon-to-open InterContinental Boston. Montarou has previously been the Executive Chef at InterContinental hotels in Spain, Columbia, Venezuela, Brazil, England and his home country of France.

Timothy Keating has joined the Biltmore in Coral Gables as Executive Chef. Since 1997 he had been in the kitchens at the Four Seasons Houston, a post he left in 2005 to take a sabbatical.

Luis Pous has been appointed Executive Chef at Little Palm Island. He was most recently the Executive Sous Chef at the Mandarin Oriental Turnberry Isle Resort and Club. He previously spent two years in a similar capacity at the Plaza-Athénée in New York.

Kyle Ketchum is leaving the Lark in West Bloomfield where he was the Chef to join the Spiced Pear at The Chanler in Newport, Rhode Island, as Executive Chef. John Somerville, the Sous Chef since 1994, has been promoted to the top post for Ketchum. 

Christian Clair left the Sofitel Water Tower in Chicago where he served as Executive Sous Chef to hold the same title at the Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel. 

Peter Tischmann, Jr. has joined the Four Seasons Wailea as Assistant Food and Beverage Director. A Cornell graduate, he was most recently the Director of Food and Beverage Administration at Wynn Las Vegas.

Elizabeth Carrier has joined the Beverly Hilton as Assistant Director of Food and Beverage. She previously spent eighteen months at Wynn Las Vegas first as General Manager of Tableau, then as General Manager of Daniel Boulud Brasserie.

Fabien Riviere has joined MIX in Las Vegas as Restaurant Manager, taking over for Gilles Kolakowski. He was most recently a Food and Beverage Manager at the Ritz-Carlton Lake Las Vegas and previously served as Dining Room Manager at Aureole, also in the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

Jane Tracey is now at the Equinox Resort and Spa as Executive Housekeeper. She was most recently in the same position at the Mountain View Grand Resort in New Hamphsire.

Jeremy McCarthy has joined Starwood Hotels and Resorts as Director of Spa Development and Operations. He was most recently the Spa Director at La Costa in Carlsbad and previously worked with Four Seasons for ten years in various spa management positions.

Europe
After René Lasserre, another legend of the restaurant world has died. Ultra-suave and elegant restaurateur Claude Terrail, the owner of La Tour d'Argent (along with several other lesser known eateries) has passed, at age 83. Terrail was known for the trademark red carnation he wore in his lapel and the depth of his wine cellar, possibly the richest in Paris.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts has appointed Colin Bennett to the newly created position of Area Manager England. He joined ITT Sheraton in 1987 as Assistant Food and Beverage Manager at the Sheraton Skyline and was most recently the General Manager of Central London Hotels.

Sandals & Beaches Resorts has named Tony Cowles Managing Director, UK & Europe, succeeding Bobby Stewart who has held the position for five years. Cowles joins following eleven years as General Manager, Europe, for Air Jamaica.

Richard Schilling is now the General Manager of the Hotel Martinez in Cannes, filling the post left vacant by Sylvain Ercoli (now at London's Claridges). Schilling is a man of many travels whose General Manager postings included the early days of the Sofitel Los Angeles and the launch of the Park Lane in Jakarta.

Franck Farneti has been appointed General Manager at the Mas de Pierre in St. Paul de Vence taking over from Oliver Pollard who is going to Dubai. Farneti was most recently the General Manager at the Hotel Juana in Juan Les Pins, and is a former Director of Sales and Marketing for Boscolo and the Carlton InterContinental in Cannes.

Taking over from Franck Farneti at the Hotel Juana is Eric Dulac, formerly the General Manager of Les Roches in Le Lavandou.

Wolfgang Wagner is now the General Manager at the Radisson SAS Berlin. He was most recently the Vice President Technical Services for Rezidor SAS Hospitality and was previously with Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts for ten years in Hamburg, Berlin and then was appointed Regional Director Germany.

Franck Boizot has joined the Nash Ville Hotel in Geneva as Executive Assistant Manager. He was most recently the Director of Sales and Marketing at the Warwick, also in Geneva.

Franco Pedone is now with the Principe di Savoia in Milan as Rooms Division Manager. He was most recently the Front Office Manager at the Park Hyatt Milan.

Robert Singer has been named Director of Sales for the Hotel de Rome in Berlin scheduled to open in August. He was most recently the Director of Sales at the Ku' Damm 101 Hotel.

Carole Tahar has joined Concorde Hotels as Director of Revenue and Yield Management. She spent the last seven years with Méridien, including five years at the company's London's headquarters.

Vincent Mackie has been names Corporate Director of Human Resources for Concorde Hotels. Since 1999, he had been a Regional Director of Human Resources for Hilton International, responsible for five hotels in the Greater Paris Area.

Asia and the Pacific
Lausanne graduate Philippe Caretti has transferred to the Shangri-La Makati in Manila as General Manager and Vice President. He has been with the company since 1993 at posts in Taipei, Hong Kong and most recently as General Manager of the Pudong Shangri-La in Shanghai.

John Rice has been appointed General Manager of the Pudong Shangri-La, replacing Philippe Caretti. This is the third posting to China for Rice, who has been with Shangri-La for the last thirteen years. He comes directly from Manila, where he had been the General Manager of the 632-room Edsa Shangri-La, since December 2004. 

Nils-Arne Schroeder has been named General Manager of the Hilton Namhae Golf & Spa Resort in Korea due to open in October. He was most recently the Director of Business Development at the Hilton Kuala Lumpur. 

Christopher Stafford has joined Anantara in the Maldives as opening General Manager. He joined Anantara as General Manager of the Anantara Resort & Spa Hua Hin then was placed in the position of Vice President and General Manager for Anantara Resorts & Spas Thailand.

Rainer Stampfer leaves the Four Seasons Los Angeles to be the opening General Manager at the Four Seasons Koh Samui in Thailand, slated for launch January 2007. In Los Angeles, he is replaced by Ben Trodd.

Raj Rao has been named General Manager at the Uttaranchal Ananda in the Himalayas. He was most recently the Director of Food and Beverage at the Oberoi in Delhi. He also served at the Ritz-Carlton St. Thomas and previously at the Four Seasons Chicago.

Martin Wessels has been appointed Director of Sales at the Kabul Serena. He joins from Scot Holland, the Central Asian real estate company, where he was in charge of real estate consultancy specializing in human resources for the energy sector. 

Frederick MacLean is now the General Manager of Bedarra Island. He was most recently the Executive Assistant Manager at the Radisson New World in Shanghai and previously held a similar position at the Radisson Plaza Resort Tahiti.

Jumeirah has named Francis Killory Vice President of Development Asia Pacific based in Shanghai. A Cornell graduate, he previously served in senior development positions with InterContinental, Méridien and Carlson Asia Pacific.

The Hilton Petaling Jaya has appointed Markus Kaliss Director of Business Development. He was most recently the Revenue Manager for the Hilton Maldives Resort & Spa.

Mike Wilkins has been appointed Director of Sales and Marketing at the Turtle Bay Resort in Hawaii. He was most recently a Senior Executive with the Centennial Service Group in Atlanta.

Lionel Richard has joined the spanking new St. Regis Bora Bora as Director of Food and Beverage. He was most recently the Director of Restaurants for the Imperial in Delhi and previously served as Food and Beverage Manager at the Lausanne Palace.

Fiona Milne has joined Huvafen Fushi in the Maldives as Executive Assistant Manager. She was most recently the Deputy General Manager at Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands. 

Gérard Agid has joined Ty Warner's Kona Village as Director of Food and Beverage. The opening General Manager at the Madison in Memphis, Agid also served as Director of Food and Beverage at the Grand America in Salt Lake City. This is a return to Hawaii for Agid who was the Food and Beverage Director and Executive Assistant Manager at Halekulani from 1990-1999.

Philip Knuepfer has transferred as Director of Food and Beverage to the Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi in Chiang Mai. He was previously at the Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur and the Kahala Mandarin Oriental.

Neeraj Govil has moved to the Brisbane Marriott as Director of Food and Beverage. He was earlier the Food and Beverage Manager at the Renaissance & Marriott Executive Apartments in Mumbai.

Kai Lermen has transferred to the Ritz-Carlton Osaka as Executive Chef taking over for Aloysius Bokhorst, who had opened the hotel and will now launch the Ritz-Carlton Tokyo. Lermen was most recently the Executive Chef at the Ritz-Carlton Palm Beach and opened the Ritz-Carlton Philadelphia.

Patrick Bolt has taken the position of Director of Facilities at Hawaii's Turtle Bay Resort. Most recently he was the Assistant Chief Engineer for sister property Lansdowne Resort, located in Leesburg, Virginia. 
   

Middle East and Africa
InterContinental has appointed Phil Kasselis as Vice President of Development, Middle East and Africa. He has relocated to Dubai following six years with InterContinental, based in Sydney as Director of Development for the Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific region. 

Cape Grace in Cape Town has named Nigel Pace as General Manager, taking over for Tony Romer-Lee. His previous appointments include senior management positions at both the Cellars-Homeport in the Western Cape and the Lautenberg. He was most recently the General Manager of Operations for The Collection by Liz McGrath.

Régis Catoire is now the General Manager at the Beau Rivage Resort in Mauritius. He was most recently the General Manager at the Plaza Royale Hotel in Beijing.

Frégate Island Private in the Seychelles has appointed Fritz and Jenny Hannenberg as Joint Managing Directors. Their most recent posting was at Jalousie Plantation on St Lucia as the General Manager and the Front of House Manager. They replace Patrick Brizio, who has returned to the Caribbean to open Discovery at Marigot Bay on St. Lucia.

Guillaume Brillatz has joined the Sands Resort in Mauritius as General Manager. He was most recently the General Manager at Pointe Vénus, also on Mauritius.

Frédéric Vidal has been appointed General Manager of the Maia Resort in the Seychelles. Previous employers include the Thermes Marins de Monte Carlo and Le Méridien Bali.

Christine Chevalaz is now in Mauritius as the Resident Manager at the Beau Rivage Resort. She was most recently the Executive Assistant Manager at the Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort, where her successor is Xavier Bessou.
